About the Role

Are you someone who loves the outdoors and hiking long distances?  Want to work in a stable and growing industry?   Join our team at Lake Superior Consulting as a Cathodic Protection Intern for summer 2026!

 

We embrace diverse backgrounds and have employees with a variety of experience in these roles currently (education, physics, criminology, environmental studies, geology.)  We are enthusiastic about training the right candidates! This position requires 75% travel (anywhere in the U.S.).

 

Cathodic Protection (CP) is used to control corrosion of metal surfaces that are in contact with soil and/or water, such as pipelines. Cathodic Protection Technicians work with CP systems installing, commissioning, monitoring, evaluating, maintaining, repairing, and decommissioning.  

  

Responsibilities 

  • Prepare for planned cathodic protection projects 
  • Perform lock out and tag out procedure 
  • Operate and use testing equipment 
  • Perform trouble shooting on cathodic protection systems 
  • Conduct function tests 
  • Gather data, prepare records and reports 
  • Install, maintain and repair components of a cathodic protection system 
  • Troubleshoot and replace components on a rectifier that is not installed 

 

 Position Requirements 

 

  • Working towards a college degree (associate or bachelor’s degree)
  • Ability to travel extensively for physically demanding work in an outdoor environment 
  • Capable of operating a company vehicle, ATV, and using general hand/power tools 
  • Strong critical thinking, problem solving, and troubleshooting abilities 
  • Commitment to working safely and producing high quality, ethical service 
  • Good organizational skills and detail oriented 
  • Highly motivated and thrives in a dynamic, team-based environment 
  • Desire to collaborate with project managers, engineers, and management
  • Strong verbal and written communication
  • Comfortable with Microsoft Office programs 

Lake Superior Consulting provides competitive compensation. Actual compensation is influenced by an array of factors including, but not limited to, skill set, years of experience, and specific office/market location. The range of starting pay for this role is $19-$22/hr.
