Since 2009, our team has worked steadily to make this dream a reality. We’ve designed and tested many generations of prototype aircraft capable of serving in a network of electric air taxis. We’re looking for talented, committed individuals to join our team as we push onward toward certifying the Joby aircraft, scaling our manufacturing, and launching our initial commercial service.

Overview

Joby Aviation is seeking a passionate student to join the System Electronics team in San Carlos, CA as a Mechanical Engineering Intern. This individual would be responsible for designing testing equipment, thermal systems aircraft components, low-voltage electronic housings, and manufacturing tooling. This role will involve design work starting at the conceptual level through full modeling and continue into manufacturing and testing.

Responsibilities

  • Design of complicated components and packaging
  • Initial layout and sizing 
  • Detailed design and fabrication specifications
  • Direct communication with vendors and technicians in manufacturing

Required

  • Heading into junior or senior year of undergraduate degree or above at time of internship
  • Available Summer 2026
  • Excellent problem solving and communication skills 
  • Strong analytical background 
  • Experience with hands-on design and testing 
  • Proficiency in mechanical design, materials selection, kinematics, troubleshooting, and analysis 
  • Proficiency with CAD

Desired

  • Experience with CATIA CAD, specifically using Generative Shape Design, Part Design, and Assembly Design modules.

 

Additional Information

Relocation Assistance: This position does not offer relocation assistance. Candidates must live in the immediate area or relocate at their own expense.

 

The pay range for undergraduate interns, which includes freshman to senior level students, is $22-$31/hr. The pay range for graduate interns with a Bachelor, Master, and/or Ph.D. degree is $5,550-$7,800/month. Individual pay is determined by internship role, department, experience, job-related skills, and level of education.
