About the Role

Job Description:

Internship Title: Continuum Damage Mechanics (CDM) based fatigue initiation prediction model integrated to Abaqus

Brief:

- Continuum Damage Mechanics (CDM) is a promising analysis methodology for better fatigue life prediction & currently has less maturity within Airbus

- Objective to further mature the fatigue initiation prediction models developed previously for uniaxial and multiaxial models including aspects of plasticity and variable loading treatment.

Job scope (core activities):

  • Improve the finite element implementation of the previously developed models with required user inputs to integrate with Abaqus

  • Adapt CDM models to higher complexity such as multiaxial loading, non-localization phenomenon, complex spectra, plasticity, temperature & humidity effects and analyze the results

  • Validate the developed methods with PoC specimens and correlate with physical test results

  • Summary of findings and preparation of report

Pre-requisites:

  • Sound knowledge of solid mechanics, finite element methods

  • Basic knowledge on structural fatigue

  • Ability to derive broad conclusions from research articles

  • Hands on experience with Abaqus along with experience with creating user subroutines preferably UMAT, USDFLD, UEXTERNALDB

  • Good programming skills

  • Good analytical and reasoning skills

Tools:  Abaqus, Fortran, Python

Qualification:

  • Graduate/Post graduate (Mechanical / Civil / Aerospace / Material Science / Applied Mechanics Engineering)

Soft skills:

  • Ability to work independently

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills

  • Flexibility & adaptability

This job requires an awareness of any potential compliance risks and a commitment to act with integrity, as the foundation for the Company’s success, reputation and sustainable growth.
