About The Company
Water is wonderful. Without it we’d be lost. With it, everything’s possible. For every toothbrush, for every loo flushed. For the hot showers, the cool drinks, the cups of tea. But it’s not just at the heart of our homes. It’s at the heart of everything; our schools, our businesses, our hospitals. Saving lives, helping communities thrive. We’re Severn Trent, a diverse and amazing group of people who want to keep it that way. We bring you clean water and we take it away safely too. But it’s not just what we do. It’s how we do it: not just talking, but going over and above. Stepping up and rolling our sleeves up. It’s because we care. Not only about our water but our corner of the country. And we care for our amazing people who make all this possible. Don’t just take our word for it; we’re a Glassdoor Top 50 Company – one of the best employers in the UK right now. At Severn Trent, we do more, because we care.

LET’S TELL YOU MORE

Our Security & Resilience Summer Placement exposes you to both the operational foundations of how a regulated business protects its assets, people, and data, and the strategic direction of how we innovate to stay ahead of emerging threats. You’ll explore how security underpins our transformation journey, supports our sustainability goals, and contributes to our ambition of becoming a resilient, net zero business.

The programme comprises working across one of our key teams in Cybersecurity, Information Governance, Physical Security, or Risk & Resilience. This placement is designed to give you a real insight into our security landscape and provide you with the opportunity to learn about our strategic, regulatory, and sustainability commitments through the lens of protection and risk management.

THINGS YOU MIGHT LEARN

  • Design and implement robust security frameworks that align with regulatory requirements and industry best practices, ensuring governance and accountability across all areas.
  • Support the development of long-term security strategies that enable innovation while safeguarding our people, systems, and infrastructure.
  • Champion our commitment to sustainability by embedding secure-by-design principles into our transformation programmes — including our journey to net zero.
  • Contribute to risk assessments, incident response planning, and resilience testing to help future-proof our business against evolving threats.

This programme is designed to equip you with the skills and experience to become a future leader within our Security, Risk, or Resilience teams. You’ll strengthen your capabilities in analytical thinking, strategic planning, and innovation, while having the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to shaping a secure and sustainable future for our business.

We welcome applicants from all backgrounds, because we know that diverse minds bring fresh ideas and new ways of thinking—and that’s exactly what helps us grow.

HOW WILL THE PROGRAMME WORK?

During the 8-week or 12-week placement you will be based at Frankley Water Treatment Works in South Birmingham, placing you right at the heart of our operations. You will be working day to day with industry professionals, taking lead on projects and real-life work.

Throughout your time with us, you’ll also benefit from a range of opportunities designed to help you explore your career ambitions, support your development, and ensure you get the most out of your placement:
