Job Summary

Are you passionate about transportation? T.Y. Lin is looking for a Transportation/Traffic Engineering Intern to join our Chicago office for the Summer of 2026. As an intern on our City Solutions Team, you'll gain the opportunity to immerse yourself in diverse infrastructure projects focused on multimodal transportation plans that support communities and transformational real estate developments. Our work includes diverse, high-profile projects around the country for public and private sector clients, and we meet our clients’ needs through an interdisciplinary approach to planning and engineering. This internship is your chance to be part of a collaborative team where you can expand your knowledge and sharpen your skills through hands-on meaningful work.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

What You Will Do

  • Conduct site visits, field observations to gather data and provide research

  • Perform traffic, pedestrian, parking and safety analyses

  • Engage with the public and stakeholders to gather input and provide updates

  • Create and develop maps, reports, presentations, and graphics

  • Contribute to problem-solving efforts to address project-related issues

  • Draft and finalize detailed reports summarizing findings and recommendations

What You Bring to the Team

  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills, with a proven ability to efficiently prioritize and manage multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of producing clear documentation and interacting professionally with clients and colleagues

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while also able to effectively collaborate in a team environment

  • Strong commitment to integrity, consistently demonstrating ethical, fair, and responsible behavior

  • Commitment to innovation and continuous learning, with a passion for acquiring new skills and driving improvements

Your Education and Experience

  • Working towards a Civil Engineering, Urban Planning, Urban Design, or Public Policy Undergraduate Degree or related Graduate Program
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) is required
  • Familiarity with traffic planning/analysis software (HCS, Synchro/Sim Traffic) and drafting software (AutoCAD, MicroStation) Preferred
