About The Company
Resonant, Murata Company, provides radio frequency (RF) filter solutions, developed on a robust intellectual property platform, that connect People and Things. With the explosion in the number of frequency bands required for next-generation wireless networks, the RF filter has become the fastest-growing component in the RF front-end. Resonant’s XBAR technology is the world's first resonator designed to natively meet the technical requirements for high-frequency and wide bandwidth 5G, Wi-Fi and ultra-wideband (UWB) networks. The company’s ISN design platform allows its technologists to create complex RF filters in a fraction of the time of legacy design tools.
About the Role

pSemi Corporation is a Murata company driving semiconductor integration. pSemi builds on Peregrine Semiconductor’s 30-year legacy of technology advancements and strong IP portfolio but with a new mission—to enhance Murata’s world-class capabilities with high-performance semiconductors. With a strong foundation in RF integration, pSemi’s product portfolio now spans power management, connected sensors, optical transceivers, antenna tuning and RF frontends. These intelligent and efficient semiconductors enable advanced modules for smartphones, base stations, personal computers, electric vehicles, data centers, IoT devices and healthcare. From headquarters in San Diego and offices around the world, pSemi’s team explores new ways to make electronics for the connected world smaller, thinner, faster and better.

Job Summary

The EM design intern will support RFIC design teams in EM optimization and design of advanced RF Front End ICs and modules for pSemi’s product development efforts for mobile wireless RF front end semiconductor products for cellular handsets. Products are expected to include multiple RF sub-circuits including switches, low noise amplifiers, bias networks, power amplifiers, filters, couplers, passive RF components and the analog/digital circuitry to control them. The candidate will support products throughout the entire product life cycle from product definition through product release to end-of-life.

Roles & Responsibilities

This position has responsibility for:

  • Product execution: Supporting design and development of advanced RF Front End circuits in the pSemi’s UltraCMOS process, working with the design teams to develop industry leading products that hit the required performance levels while meeting quality, cost and manufacturability metrics
  • Product Design and Validation: Support development of high-performance products through co-design of passive and active devices.
  • EM Modeling: Develop EM models for modules/ICs to support co-simulations efforts.
  • Passive design/validation: Help support research and development efforts in passive designs like couplers, inductors by taping out designs and confirming performance through measurements.
  • EM infrastructure: Help the EM team develop and maintain EM infrastructure including scripts for EM model set up, cloud/local simulation flow, evaluate new and existing EM tools, etc.

Minimum Qualifications (Experience and Skills)

  • Course work/projects demonstrating knowledge of   electromagnetics, passive designs like couplers, inductors, splitters, filters, antennas, etc.
  • Knowledge of RF measurements – NF, IP3, IP2, S-parameters, matching using smith charts, time domain measurements etc.
  • Software tools: Practical knowledge of EM simulation tools such as HFSS/HFSS-3D layout, EMX /Momentum/Sonnet or similar tools, ADS or equivalent circuit design tools, MS Office.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Coursework/projects demonstrating RFIC design including LNA/PA/SW design
  • Strength in documentation clarity and completeness
  • Cooperative team member with a strong sense of urgency to meet product requirements on schedule
  • Familiarity with Cadence virtuoso, PCB/Module layout tools like allegro/zuken
  • Scripting knowledge using python, or similar.
  • Familiarity of working in a Linux environment.
  • Lab experience calibrating and using network analyzer, spectrum analyzer, GSG probes, oscilloscopes, etc.

Minimum Education Requirements

  • Full-time enrollment in accredited bachelor’s degree program in Electrical Engineer (must be completing 3+ year) or MSEE candidate

Work Environment
