About the Role

THE BEST INTERNSHIP IN THEORY - AND IN PRACTICE.

SHARE YOUR PASSION.

World-leading technologies don’t make it into a BMW until they’ve undergone one of the most challenging journeys imaginable. It takes dynamic teams with outstanding technical skills to take them from the drawing board to the road. That’s why our experts will treat you as part of the team from day one, encourage you to bring your own ideas to the table – and give you the opportunity to really show what you can do.

Our team at the BMW Group explores the optimization of passive restraint systems using machine learning. We aim to enable full adaptivity of vehicles to various crash scenarios and passenger anthropometries, offering you the opportunity to support innovative occupant safety development during your internship.

What awaits you?

  • You will support running crash simulations to compare Human Body Models and crash dummies.
  • Furthermore, you help to define objective functions based on injury metrics for both Human Body Models and dummies.
  • In addition, you contribute to developing and optimizing neural networks for restraint system setup.
  • Moreover, you will assist in comparing neural network-based restraint systems to conventional deployment strategies.

What should you bring along?

  • Studies in mechanical engineering, mathematical engineering, computer science or a similar field.
  • Good skills in machine learning techniques and numerical optimization.
  • Experience in Finite Element Analysis and computational mechanics, ideally with LS-DYNA or similar simulation software.
  • Analytical mindset and interest in occupant safety.
  • Fluent English skills, good German is a plus.

Would you like to support our team in developing adaptive occupant safety systems using machine learning? Then apply now!
