About the Role

Avila Center Intern

Are you interested in advancing social justice issues by supporting and connecting community organizers and leaders working for systemic change in the South? Self-Help’s Avila Center for Community Leadership is seeking an intern to support our internal systems that are critical to growing the retreat center and our impact with critical community partners and advocates.

What You’ll Do: 

The Data System Associate Intern will be instrumental in preparing Avila for a new partner and data management system. After 4 years of steady growth in supporting community organizers and leaders, we need to organize and analyze our data so we can tell our story clearly, understand partner trends, and make informed strategic decisions.   

  • Prepare, clean, and organize historic data for upload into Avila’s selected CRM (such as Salesforce).
  • Support the setup of a partner database by entering data, tagging records, and ensuring consistency across systems.
  • Analyze historic booking and partner data to identify trends in mission alignment, engagement, and booking behavior.
  • Assist in mapping relationships across 150+ partner organizations to surface networks, clusters, and opportunities for impact.
  • Create simple data visualizations, summaries, or prototype dashboards that help communicate insights to staff and partners.
  • Surface early recommendations, grounded in data, that can strengthen Avila’s operations and mission-driven partnerships.

What You’ll Need:  

  • Undergraduate or graduate student, recent graduates welcome to apply  
  • Demonstrate a sincere interest in non-profit work, education, advocacy, or social work  
  • Excellent interpersonal skills  
  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills  
  • Strong organizational skills  
  • An enthusiasm for learning  
  • Strong attention to detail
