We are looking for a Full-time Project Engineer Intern to join our amazing, hard working Construction team this summer at our new Multi-Family Affordable Apartment site in Mishawaka, IN, called Stone Leaf Reserve. 

A successful construction intern candidate is passionate about construction, detail oriented, curious, team focused, fun, hard-working, and willing to do whatever it takes to get the job done right.  You will work in unison with the onsite construction team to ensure that a full range of construction activities are completed successfully and efficiently.  The level of involvement will depend on specific project needs, needs of the onsite team, and your individual abilities. 


Pay: $15 per hour

Full-Time at 40 hours per week

*Candidates must be enrolled in a Construction related major and in school during Internship period. 

POSITION SUMMARY:

This is an entry to medium level construction position that assists construction director or project management with all aspects of assigned projects. This includes planning, plan review, scheduling, quality control that results in completion of all projects on time, on budget and at a level of quality that meets or exceeds Kittle Property Group and the customer’s expectations. The position will be based in Lafayette, IN but may require some travel to other construction sites periodically.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Verify accuracy of submittals and shop drawings against contract documents and specifications as well as state housing agency and “green” commitments
  • Assist Project Managers and Superintendents with distribution of design drawings, RFI responses to management team and subcontractors, vendors
  • Assists project staff to help resolve engineering or construction problems in the field
  • Assist Construction Administrators to collect LEED/ Green documentation from project stakeholders
  • Site visits/ meetings as required. Will be assigned to work on site on certain projects for a period of time. Visit/ walk project site as required to observe construction sequencing, means and methods to ensure construction activities meet quality assurance and quality control requirements
  • Researches and helps to resolve drawing interpretation problems, applicable codes, conflicts, errors
  • May on occasion be asked to assist with cost estimates with Estimator and other Construction staff
  • Assists Project Manager and Project Superintendent with project start –up and close-out
  • Help to coordinate transition of new projects between construction and property management staff
  • Monitor and provide monthly updates of quality, safety and schedule of projects as assigned
  • May be asked to submit drawings and procure civil, building permits for projects assigned
  • May be asked to assist in obtaining  project bonds and exoneration at project completion
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Working toward Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Construction Science or other related field.
  • 0-5 years of construction experience. Multifamily construction experience is a plus.
  • Language Skills – Ability to read, write, interpret and analyze business publications, technical procedures and government regulations.  Ability to write and interpret reports, correspondence and manuals.  Ability to effectively present to groups of people including employees, vendors and the general public.
  • Math Skills – Ability to calculate discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, and to apply concepts of algebra and geometry.
  • Reasoning Skills – Ability to define issues, collect information, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions in various forms and deal with abstract and concrete variables.
  • Computer Skills – Intermediate experience with MS Office, MS Project, MS Excel. Experience with ProCore software is a plus.
  • Other duties as assigned by Company Management.
