<h3>The Position</h3><p><b><b>2026</b><b> Summer</b><b> Intern - </b><b>Structural Biology / Physiological Chemistry</b></b><br />​</p><p><b>Department Summary: </b></p><p></p><p><span>The mission of the Department of Physiological Chemistry is to investigate cell death and inflammation pathways of importance to human disease.</span><br /> </p><p>The Department of Physiological Chemistry is looking for a self-motivated and detail-oriented intern for the summer of 2026. This is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in cutting-edge scientific research, specifically in protein biochemistry and cryogenic electron microscopy (cryoEM).</p><p></p><p><span>The successful candidate will work in a collaborative environment, contributing to studies focused on the scientific mechanisms of cell death and inflammation. Under the guidance of a mentor, the intern will conduct experiments utilizing state-of-the-art instruments and will have the chance to collaborate with scientists across various departments. Join us to expand your professional horizons while helping to unravel scientific mysteries.</span></p><p><br /><span>This internship position is located<b><b><span> </span></b></b>in</span><b><b> </b><b>South San Francisco, on-site</b></b><br /><br /><b>The Opportunity</b></p><ul><li><p><span>Perform protein expression and purification.</span></p></li><li><p><span>Conduct structural studies using cryoEM.</span></p></li><li><p><span>Apply various biochemical/biophysical techniques. </span></p></li><li><p><span>Present and discuss data during team meetings. </span></p></li><li><p><span>Maintain accurate laboratory documentation</span>.</p></li></ul><p></p><p>​<b><b>Program Highlights</b></b></p><ul><li><p><span> </span><b>Intensive 12-weeks, full-time (40 hours per week) paid internship.</b></p></li><li><p><b>Program start dates are in May/June (Summer)</b></p></li><li><p><b>A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship. </b></p></li><li><p><span>Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects.</span></p></li><li><p>Work with some of the most talented people in the biotechnology industry.</p></li></ul><p><span> </span>​</p><p><b><b>Who You Are </b></b><br /><br /><b><b>Required Education:</b></b></p><ul><li><p>Must be pursuing a PhD (enrolled student) with at least 2 years of lab experience</p></li></ul><p><br /><b>Required Mayors: </b></p><ul><li><p><span>Structural biology, Biophysics, Biochemistry or a related field</span></p></li></ul><p><br /><b>Required Skills:</b></p><p><span>Experience with protein purification</span><br /> </p><p><b><b>Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications</b></b></p><ul><li><p><span>Experience with cryoEM</span></p></li><li><p><span>Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.</span></p></li><li><p><span>Detail-oriented with exceptional organization skills.</span></p></li><li><p><span>Complements our culture and the standards that guide our daily behavior & decisions: Integrity, Courage, and Passion.</span></p></li></ul><p></p><p><b><b>Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting. <br />​</b></b></p><p><span>The expected salary for this position based on the primary location of  California </span><span>is $46.00 hour.  Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
