About the Role

Role Overview

ABS Global, a Genus Company, has an exciting opportunity for a Manufacturing Engineering Intern to join our team and gain hands-on experience in process improvement and engineering projects. This internship is your chance to learn from industry experts, contribute to meaningful projects, and build skills that will set you apart in your career.

 

The position is located in DeForest, Wisconsin. As a Manufacturing Engineering Intern, you’ll work alongside experienced engineers to support process analysis, documentation, and improvement initiatives. We’re looking for someone who is curious, eager to learn, detail-oriented, and ready to collaborate in a fast-paced environment.

 

The hourly compensation range for this position is $18-$22 USD. This is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. Genus considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

You Will

You will:

  • Get hands-on experience by documenting and analyzing current manufacturing processes to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Collaborate with engineers and production teams to implement small-scale process changes and learn how real-world manufacturing works.
  • Support the development of standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and process documentation.
  • Collect and organize production data for analysis and reporting—your insights will help drive efficiency.
  • Assist in preparing engineering drawings and specifications under supervision.
  • Participate in continuous improvement projects using Lean principles and basic problem-solving tools.
  • Contribute to safety and quality initiatives within the manufacturing environment.
  • Follow all safety protocols and promote a safe working environment.
  • Uphold the Genus core values, mission and vision.
  • Position may require work responsibilities outside of normal business hours.
  • Performs other projects and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

 

Basic Qualifications (required):

  • Education: Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field.
  • Year of experience: No prior experience required; coursework or projects in manufacturing or process improvement preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Available for 12 weeks during the summer.
  • Authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with Lean or Six Sigma principles.
  • Experience with CAD software or basic engineering drawings.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Strong analytical and communication skills.
