About The Company
Stevens Towing Company is a midsize freight transportation company based on Yonges Island, SC just south of Charleston with regional offices in Edenton, NC and Morehead City, NC. Stevens Towing Co. was founded in 1913 on Yonges Island and originally engaged in moving produce and passengers from local barrier islands to the Charleston market. Today Stevens engages in Inland, Coastwise and Ocean Towing. We have experienced operators and crew; a fleet of 13 tugs; a fleet of 60+ barges in multiple sizes and configurations; cranes (including two 500 ton floating cranes based in Charleston and Savannah); a US Flagged Jones Act ship and a full service shipyard. Stevens Towing regularly services the East, West and Gulf Coasts of the US, including the Western Rivers and Great Lakes, as well as international ports.

The welding internship program offers high school students the opportunity to gain practical, hands-on experience in welding and related trades. Students will work alongside experience welders, technicians and industry professionals, learning about safety, equipment operation, and various welding techniques. This program is designed to build essential skills and help students understand career pathways in welding and metalworking.

Internship Goals:

  • To provide high school students with hands-on exposure to the welding trade.
  • To teach safety procedures and best practices in a controlled work environment.
  • To introduce students to various welding techniques
  • Introduction of oxy/fuel cutting
  • introduction to welding machines/tools
  • To foster professionalism, teamwork, and communication in a real-world setting.
  • To help students determine if they are interested in pursuing a career in welding or related fields.

 


Internship Requirements:

  • No prior welding experience is required, but students should have basic math skills
  • This is a paid internship; all students must commit to attending all scheduled days and arrive on time
  • Students must adhere to all safety rules and always wear the required protective equipment
  • It is your responsibility to write weekly journal entries regarding what you accomplished during the past week
  • You will be required to take a Midpoint and Final Evaluation
