Controls Engineering Co-op

Job Summary

Reko Automation Group is currently seeking an innovative, results driven individual to join our Controls Engineering team, as a Controls Engineering Co-op student.  Reporting to the Controls Engineering Supervisor, the successful candidate, through on-the-job, hands-on training will be provided the opportunity to learn and assist in varying stages of designs through programming and commissioning of control systems including Electrical/pneumatic AutoCAD design, programming of all types of PLCs and HMIs, programming and teaching of Robots, integration of third-party systems, and startup, debug and commissioning of factory automation machines.

Here is what a typical day looks like!

  • Assist, alongside members of the Controls Engineering team, to complete of projects; according to established schedules, consistent with specific quality and legislation standards.
  • Participate in inter-department meetings during the design process to design automation solutions, which are built efficiently and perform their intended function safely and reliably
  • Provide suggestions to continuously improve the design/programming methods utilized within the controls engineering division, with the goals being enhanced safety, enhanced functionality, and reduced cost
  • Work in a collaborative team environment with Sales, Estimating, Project Management, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing, and Management to assist in the successful execution of projects.
  • Attend internal kick off meetings (line up meetings) for new projects to receive an understanding of the scope of the project.
  • Liaison with vendors for technical information and specifications. 
  • Participate in post project review meetings to compare what was quoted against the completed project.

  • Students currently enrolled in the University of Windsor’s Engineering department and in good standing/eligible for co-op placement.
  • Strong computer/keyboarding, problem solving, organizational, and coaching skills, with the ability to meet deadlines
  • Able to work independently and in a team environment
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills are required
  • The following experience/skills would be considered an asset:
    1. PLC programming, specifically Rockwell, Siemens, or OMRON PLC and HMI programming environments 
    2. Industrial controls system design and AutoCAD
    3. Robot programming including Fanuc, Kuka, and ABB Robots 
    4. Cognex or Keyence Vision systems
  • Technical knowledge of manufacturing processes and factory automation would be considered an asset
