Job Details
Collins' Milwaukee office has an opening for a civil engineering student to gain hands-on experience with construction management projects. This role will work with professional licensed engineers inspecting construction activities, documenting contract quantities, and creating reports using data collections from the field. This position will provide hands-on experience collaborating on construction management and inspection projects and working on other various tasks with our seasoned engineers.
This internship is for Summer of 2026 and will be primarily in the field.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for monitoring contractor conformance to quality, performance, and specifications for assigned construction activities
- Performs daily field inspections and maintains inspection records
- Assists in the completion of reports
- Measures and records pay item quantities
- Assists with coordination with contractor foreman or superintendent
- Documents field conditions, contractor progress and issues
- Keeps Resident Engineer informed of workload, issue resolution and any daily activities
- Actively observes and acts in an appropriate manner related to safety
Qualifications
Education and/or Experience:
- Junior or senior working towards a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management from an accredited university, or associate degree in Civil Engineering Technology or Construction Management
- Previous software experience in AutoCAD, MicroStation, Blue Beam, or Civil 3D is a plus
- Previous software experience in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe PDF or other PDF editing software is a plus
- A valid driver's license
