INTERNSHIP SUMMARY:

Starfish Family Services supports and contributes to the education of Early Childhood Education students for the purpose of perpetuating high standards in the field of Early Childhood Education. To that end, Starfish facilitates voluntary Internship experiences for students to gain practical working knowledge in the field.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Must be currently enrolled in school and working towards either a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential, or enrolled in a program leading to an Associates, Bachelor, or advanced degree such as a Master’s degree or Doctorate.
  • Previous experience working with young children preferred.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The duties listed are typical examples of the work performed by interns in the Early Childhood Education program- not all duties are included. It is expected that an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Follow Starfish Family Services policies and procedures.
  • Follow the guidance from your Center Leader and Mentor Teacher.
  • Learn about Early Childhood Education routines and activities through assignments.
  • Participate in professional development, training, and staff meetings.
  • Maintain confidentiality and privacy as required.
  • Notify your Center Leader and Mentor Teacher of adjustments to your schedule.
  • Engage with students, staff, and visitors.
  • Participate in the daily routine for the classroom and Center as directed by Center Leader and Mentor Teacher.
  • Occasionally lead and instruct students in activities based on their own lesson plans.
  • Intern will have discussion and input with the Center Leader and/or Mentor Teacher prior to instructing students.
  • Intern will display initiative to assist in the classroom and success of the Center.
  • Assist with collection of assessment data.

 

LICENSING AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Valid driver’s license and / or reliable transportation.
