Position Summary: Family Service of Rhode Island (FSRI) is seeking a Best Start Clinical Intern to provide comprehensive, trauma-informed, community-based clinical services to pregnant individuals, infants, children, and their families through the Best Start Home Visiting Program. The Best Start Clinical Intern will collaborate with clinicians, community health workers, nurses, program supervisors, and community providers to enhance family stability, promote healthy child development, and reduce barriers to care.  The clinical intern as part of a multidisciplinary team will work on the early identification and treatment of maternal mental health issues, child development concerns, and overall family wellness through in-home services, clinical screenings, therapy, and care coordination.

 

Specific Duties/ Responsibilities: 

  • Provide clinical assessments, screenings, and therapeutic interventions for caregivers and children, including but not limited to:
    • Maternal mental health and postpartum depression
    • Infant and early childhood development
    • Parent-child attachment and relational health
    • Social Determinants of Health (SDOH)
  • Deliver in-home, clinic-based, and community-based clinical and case management services using evidence-based and trauma-informed practices.
  • Collaboration with Community Health Workers to support:
    • Family Needs Assessments
    • Family Care Plans
    • Care coordination and follow-up
  • Develop and maintain individualized treatment plans and contribute to multidisciplinary case reviews.
  • Coordinate referrals and linkages to behavioral health, medical, early childhood, and social service providers.
  • Maintain timely, accurate, and compliant documentation in the electronic health record.
  • Participate in supervision, clinical team meetings, and ongoing professional development.

Support community outreach and engagement activities as required

 

Qualifications:  

  • Enrolled in a master’s degree in social work, Counseling, Psychology, or related field required.
  • Some experience providing clinical services to children and families, preferably in home-based or community settings.
  • Basic knowledge or interest:
  • Infant and early childhood development
  • Perinatal mental health
  • Trauma-informed and culturally responsive care
  • Assessment, clinical documentation, and care-coordination skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Bilingual skills are strongly preferred.
  • Bilingual/ASL skills are compensated by an additional 6%, above base pay.
  • Multilingual skills are compensated by an additional 8%, above base pay.

 

Physical Requirements:

Ability to:

  • Travel to and from community locations and office sites, including use of walkways, stairs, and/or elevators.
  • Lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
