Our team solves tough, meaningful problems that create a safer, more secure world.  </p><p></p><p>The <b>Raytheon Mechanical Engineering (ME) Organization</b> leads the mechanical hardware design, development and production support of a wide breadth of air, land, sea, and space systems.  The ME team strives to be the premier organization for mechanical design and development through our world class people and technology - creating trusted, innovative solutions to make the world a safer place.  ME’s capabilities encompass a broad range of technical disciplines which include engineering, technical services, materials, processes, analysis, test, and documentation.</p><p></p><p>Within the ME Organization, the <b>Undersea, Sensors & Structures (USS) Department</b> leads the mechanical design, development, and integration of a broad range of products, including but not limited to undersea sensors and analysis, naval platforms, shipboard/ground-based processing and power equipment, and launchers. </p><p></p><p>The USS department is looking for summer full-time <b>Mechanical Engineering Interns,</b> located in Portsmouth, RI.</p><p></p><p><b>What You Will Do</b></p><ul><li>Perform mechanical design, development, and documentation of components, sub-assemblies, and major end items for defense system equipment in accordance with system requirements.</li><li>Collaborate across multiple disciplines/functions (i.e. structural/thermal analyses and electrical engineering) to solve complex technical challenges in a fast-paced, team environment.</li><li>Validate design fit and functionality by rapid prototyping and/or simulation</li><li>Support the factory and suppliers with product integration</li><li>Participate in design peer reviews, resolving action items, and conduct trade studies to make sound technical decisions.</li><li>Occasional CONUS travel to customer sites or suppliers is generally required.  International and longer duration travel assignments are available but optional</li></ul><p></p><p><b>Qualifications You Must Have</b></p><ul><li>This position is for an intern who is enrolled in a Bachelor’s (or higher) degree in <span>Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM)</span> program and will be at minimum, entering their <i>(Sophomore year)</i> by the start of Summer 2026.</li><li>Experience with 3-D modeling software</li></ul><p></p><p><b>Qualifications We Prefer</b></p><ul><li>Experience in the specification, design, development, production and testing of undersea systems and electronics packaging. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
