About the Role

Job Description- Legal Internship 2026

Smith & Wesson is seeking highly motivated law students for our Summer 2026 Legal Internship! This hands-on opportunity introduces interns to a diverse range of legal areas, with some tailored to the firearm industry and others applicable to broader practice. You'll gain practical skills through tasks such as conducting legal research, drafting memos and contracts, assisting with compliance reviews, and supporting litigation efforts across fields such as firearms and trade regulations, intellectual property, marketing and advertising law, employment law, and more.

 

Location, Schedule, & Compensation:

  • In-office/non-remote
  • Maryville, TN
  • 40 hours per week for seven weeks:
    • Session one: May 11, 2026 – June 26, 2026
    • Session two: June 29, 2026 – August 14, 2026
  • Paid

 

Education and Qualifications:

  • 1L or 2L juris doctorate candidate
  • Excellent research abilities
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Analytical skills
  • Interest in working in the firearms industry post-degree
  • Interest in firearms and enthusiasm for the Second Amendment

 

Physical Demands:   

  • Works in an office environment.
  • Able to sit and work at a computer keyboard for extended periods of time.

Work Environment and Personal Protective Equipment:

Within the Smith & Wesson manufacturing facility, employees may be exposed to manufacturing noise, airborne liquid chemicals, fine particulate dust, ambient temperatures, and industrial lighting. Work environment is similar to most manufacturing operations. May be exposed to excessive noise, temperatures, hazards associated with working around moving machinery, work in confined quarters, exposure to vibrations and shop lighting, continuous exposure to hot temperatures, may be humid, odors, dust, continuous exposure to mechanical hazards, and occasional exposure to chemical hazards.

The following Personal Protective Equipment is required: Safety glasses with side shields and hearing protection are required when on the manufacturing floor. The use of additional personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required when a job task(s) is being completed in or around your assigned department or in another department, this includes safety eyewear, hearing protection, and safety footwear.
