The United Consulting Geotechnical Laboratory occupies approximately 10,000 square feet of space in our Norcross, Georgia headquarters. The laboratory is fully equipped to perform a wide variety of tests on disturbed and undisturbed samples. Our USACE-certified lab is also certified by American Association of State Highway Transportation Officials (AASHTO) under the AASHTO Materials Reference Laboratory (AMRL) the Concrete and Cement Reference Laboratory (CCRL) as an R-18 Laboratory.
About the Role

Description

Title: SURVEY INTERN

Department: Survey

Reports To: Surveying Crew Chief or Surveying Department Manager

Education: Candidate must be currently enrolled in Civil Engineering or Surveying curriculum at an

accredited college or university

Registration: None

Experience: Entry Level Position


Duties:

Assist Survey Crew Chief in performing field work for route, topographic, boundary, ALTA/ACSM,

construction staking and R/W staking surveys

Perform project research

Assist in data collection and layout of accurate survey data for route, topographic, boundary,

ALTA/ACSM, construction staking, and R/W staking surveys

Accurately record field notes in a field book

Perform assigned tasks to aid in completing a project

Assist in preparing field books, legal descriptions, plats for route surveys, topographic surveys,

boundary surveys and ALTA/ACSM Surveys and assemble data for construction staking

Assist in downloading and uploading information to data collectors

Assist in processing field data and building 3D surfaces

Communicate with field crews and office staff to provide quality services

Maintain confidentiality of information regarding clients and company practices

Perform other duties as assigned


Skills:

Successful completion of surveying coursework is preferred

Possess good communication skills

Able to work within a “team concept.”

Able to work independently with instruction

Able to learn the use of total stations, GPS equipment, digital and differential levels, and data collectors

Proficient with a computer and familiarity with AutoCAD, Microsoft Word, Outlook, Teams, and Excel

Able to learn the use of construction plans for public works projects

Proficient in geometry and trigonometry

Ability to meet a deadline

Requirements

Physical Requirements:

Able to work 9 or more hours per workday

Able to work 40 or more hours per work week, as needed

Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions, traversing uneven or difficult terrain while carrying

survey equipment

Able to travel throughout Indiana, including overnight stays

Able to drive rebar, lath, stakes, and/or hubs into the ground as needed

Able to dig and/or probe into pavement or ground for pertinent survey information

Able to lift utility structure lids or covers


Other Requirements:

Possess a valid Indiana Driver’s License
