What you’ll be doing:

Communitech is leading a community-wide initiative - called the Waterloo Region AI Coalition - to help small and medium-sized businesses adopt AI. As part of this initiative, Communitech is running an AI adoption pilot internally and this is where you come in! 

We are recruiting a team of 3 students (1 Product Management role and 2 Software Development roles) to work at Communitech, collaborating with our internal team and our external partner, AltaML, to develop a custom agentic AI tool.

In this role, your responsibilities will include:

  • Deeply understand customer (Communitech’s) needs

  • Research product trends to keep up to date with the rapidly evolving world of

Technology

  • Collaborate with AltaML to identify where machine learning may be uniquely capable of solving those needs

  • Quantify the opportunity by estimating the value to the customer 

  • Formulating a product vision

  • Translating your vision into a product roadmap

  • Breaking down the roadmap into releases that deliver incremental value

  • Write requirements and user stories, create simple wireframes, prototypes, and

develop test, release, and feedback plans

  • Work collaboratively with the Software Developers (Co-op), Communitech team, and AltaML to ensure clear communication of objectives, prioritization, iteration, and successful delivery

  • Testing solutions

  • Formulate and execute a go to market strategy

  • Monitor where your strategy is failing and determine the right pivots to improve growth and profitability


Qualifications

  • Confident, clear, and concise communication (written, verbal) and strong active listening skills

  • Ability to collaborate and work in a team

  • Ability to work independently 

  • Maintain confidentiality 

  • Critical thinking and problem solving skills

  • Professional interaction with customers, including executives

  • Experience with the full life cycle of a product, from conception to revenue

  • Experience with machine learning

  • Knowledge of additional functional areas such as Engineering, Project Management (SDLC), UX/UI, Marketing, or Agentic AI is an asset

Compensation

The hourly rate of pay will be $20.00-$31.00. Final compensation decisions will be based on the students’ university’s co-op earnings guidelines, in addition to the students’ work term and experience.

This role has a target start date of January 19, 2026. It is a co-op, contract role that is set to end on April 24, 2026.


Communitech is based in downtown Kitchener, Ontario; we are located on a Grand River Transit ION Transit route. We work in-office five days a week (37.5 hours/week) because great things happen when we're together — creating space for deeper collaboration and stronger relationships with each other and the ecosystem we support.
