POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Special Events Coordinator, the Lead Fundraising, Sales, and Events Intern is a part-time, temporary nonexempt position that runs from January through late August and averages 20-30 hours per week.
This position is instrumental in supporting our largest annual fundraiser, Summer Bowl for Kids’ Sake. This position will primarily be tasked with aiding our Special Events Coordinator from January-August in recruiting and mentoring event participants through email and phone recruitment and in-person or virtual company presentations. In this role, you will also provide customer service to each event participant, helping to support their fundraising efforts. This position will also play an important role at the event during the month of July, assisting with pre-event, on-site and post-event leadership, providing excellent customer service, as well as being responsible for data entry management for over 400 teams and 2,000 participants, and assisting to support 8 Bowl for Kids’ Sake part-time Interns.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support the Fundraising and Special Events team in achieving Bowl for Kids' Sake fundraising goals
- Manage customer service inquiries via email, text, and phone for all Bowl for Kids' Sake participants
- Develop and execute sales, recruitment, and mentoring strategies to increase event participation and fundraising success including texting participants, emailing teams and calling team captains
- Deliver presentations in a lunch and learn environment at various companies about BBBSKC and Bowl for Kids' Sake to recruit participants and raise community awareness
- Oversee event operations including setup, breakdown, check-in, and record-keeping for all July sessions (tentatively July 8-10, 14-17, and 21-24, subject to change)
- Assist in leading a team of 8 Bowl for Kids' Sake Interns throughout May-July
- Facilitate afternoon mentoring sessions as assigned by the Special Events Coordinator
- Handle administrative tasks including phone calls, volunteer coordination, email correspondence, mailings, data entry, and event materials management
- Support planning and execution of RISE rooftop party (August 29)
- Attend and assist with Legacy Golf Tournaments (May 17-18, June 7-8) and additional third-party events throughout the summer
- Other duties as assigned
ABOUT YOU
Our ideal candidate will be a team player, who demonstrates a willingness to take on new tasks with a general attitude that no task is too small, impossible or cannot be improved. The position requires the ability to speak and present in front of groups of all sizes, leading and running presentations in-person, strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, and strong organizational and creative thinking skills. The ideal candidate will also have a positive attitude with a willingness to learn and jump in anywhere help is needed.
Candidates must also be comfortable in assisting in building relationships with supporters, board members and other staff. Must be highly organized with the ability to multitask and work effectively in a team-based environment, as well as individually to achieve a common goal.
Note: This position requires access to reliable transportation to travel from different locations as needed and will include some days, evenings and weekends
EDUCATION, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Previous experience in sales, customer service, and/or fundraising
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Comfortable speaking and presenting in front of groups of all sizes
- Strong organizational and creative thinking skills with attention to detail
- Comfortable working in a sales/fundraising role and building relationships with supporters, board members, and staff
- Basic office and computer skills including Outlook, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Works effectively in a team-based environment motivated by achieving a common goal
- Positive attitude with a willingness to learn and work hard
- Access to reliable transportation to travel to and from different locations
- Willing to work days, some evenings, and weekends
- Ability to work during every Bowl for Kids' Sake event session (unless otherwise approved by manager)
- Ability to work both Legacy Tournaments and setup days (unless otherwise approved by manager)
- Passion for the nonprofit industry and fundraising preferred
- Experience supervising/leading others in event planning preferred
- Bachelor's degree preferred
- Salesforce or other CRM experience preferred

As a member of the BBBSKC team there will be an expectation to participate in some evening and weekend events.
STARTING SALARY RANGE
$17/hour working 20-30 hours/week as needed from January 2026 through late August 2026.
