<h3>The Position</h3><p><b><b>2026 Summer Intern - Early Clinical Development</b></b><br /> </p><p><b>Department Summary</b></p><p></p><p>Genentech’s Research and Early Development (gRED) Early Clinical Development (ECD) organization is responsible for developing and executing early development clinical strategies and plans to provide proof-of-concept data with respect to safety, efficacy, and the utility of biomarkers for gRED new molecular entities.</p><p></p><p>Working with the ophthalmology team within ECD, the intern will have the opportunity to work with key stakeholders from across the organization to help enable Clinical Development Plans (CDPs) for new eye medications. According to some reports, vision loss is predicted to increase by as much as 55 percent in the next 30 years, which could impact more than 600 million people. At Genentech, we’re committed to reducing the heavy burden of eye disease and blindness, and we are searching for an intern who is passionate about helping prevent vision loss.</p><p><br />This internship position is located in<b><b><span> </span>South San Francisco, on site.</b></b></p><p></p><p><b>The Opportunity</b></p><ul><li><p>Conduct comprehensive literature reviews on state-of-the-art methods for analyzing disease progression and predictive modeling in ophthalmology (specifically utilizing imaging data).</p></li><li><p>Curate and preprocess complex clinical datasets to ensure data quality for evaluation and prediction tasks.</p></li><li><p>Implement and compare various statistical and computational approaches to analyze ophthalmology disease progression.</p></li><li><p>Develop novel statistical approaches or machine learning models that leverage baseline characteristics to predict disease progression.</p></li><li><p>Perform simulation studies and sensitivity analyses to assess model robustness and validity under varying scenarios and assumptions.</p></li><li><p>Document analytical findings and collaborate with ophthalmology working groups to interpret results and assess clinical relevance.</p></li><li><p>Contribute to internal presentations and, where applicable, assist in the preparation of abstracts or manuscripts for scientific publication.</p></li><li><p>Frequent 1:1 meetings with key stakeholders across the organization.</p></li><li><p>Opportunity to work with Clinical Science Team Leaders (CSTL)/Clinical Scientists in ophthalmology to analyze study results.​</p></li></ul><p></p><p><b>Program Highlights</b></p><ul><li><p><b><b>Intensive<span> </span></b><b>12-weeks</b><b>, full-time (40 hours per week) paid internship.</b></b></p></li><li><p><b><b>Program start dates are<span> </span></b><b>May/June 2026.</b></b></p></li><li><p><b><b>A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship. </b></b></p></li><li><p>Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects.</p></li><li><p>Work with some of the most talented people in the biotechnology industry.</p></li></ul><p></p><p><b>Who You Are</b></p><p></p><p><b>Required Education</b></p><p>You meet one of the following criteria:</p><ul><li><p>Must have attained a Bachelor's degree (recent graduates not currently enrolled in a grad program).</p></li><li><p>Must be pursuing a Master's degree.</p></li><li><p>Must have attained a Master's degree.</p></li><li><p>Must be pursuing a PhD.</p></li></ul><p></p><p><b>Required Majors:<span> </span></b>Ideally biostatistics or computational science, but open to science majors who have that expertise.</p><p></p><p><b>Required Skills: </b></p><ul><li><p>Strong knowledge of statistical methodologies, including mixed-effect models, longitudinal data analysis, and Bayesian inference as well as statistical simulations and alongside proficiency in data visualization.</p></li><li><p>Exceptional programming skills and experience (fluency in R strongly preferred; knowledge of SAS and Python is a plus).</p></li><li><p>Basic understanding of clinical trial design and clinical development plans.</p></li><li><p>Experience working in complex multi-disciplinary settings.</p></li><li><p>Impeccable ethics, outstanding attention to detail, excellent project management, teamwork, and interpersonal skills, outstanding communication (verbal and written).</p></li></ul><p></p><p><b>Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications</b></p><ul><li><p>Prior experience in ophthalmology or in clinical research is a desired plus.</p></li></ul><p></p><p><b>Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting. </b></p><p></p><p>The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is<b><span> </span></b><b>$45.00 - $50.00 per<span> </span></b><b>hour. </b>Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
