About the Internship
Join the Manufacturing Engineering team at Collins Aerospace, where innovation, precision, and modernization shape the future of aerospace production.
As a Manufacturing Engineering Intern, you will support shopfloor layout planning, digitalization projects, equipment upgrades, automation initiatives, and workflow optimization activities. This internship offers a hands-on opportunity to contribute to factory modernization, process improvement, and data-driven manufacturing transformation.
You will collaborate with engineers, technicians, and cross-functional teams to analyze production processes, support digital tools, and help streamline operational efficiency.
What You Will Learn
- Hands-on experience in shopfloor layout planning, workflow optimization, and process mapping.
- Exposure to CAPEX planning, justification, and equipment upgrade strategies.
- Understanding of smart manufacturing technologies, including automation, machine connectivity, and OEE tracking.
- Develop analytical skills through data cleaning, visualization, and reporting for production and quality systems.
- Strengthen collaboration skills by working closely with engineering, IT, quality, and production teams.
- Learn key manufacturing processes such as machining, welding, assembly, and testing.
- Gain practical experience in root cause analysis, corrective actions, and continuous improvement methodologies.
What You Will Work On
- Document current manufacturing workflows, identify bottlenecks, and recommend improvements for efficiency, quality, and ergonomic optimization.
- Support CAPEX proposal development, justification, and budget tracking for new equipment or upgrades.
- Assist in process reviews, updates, and standardization (process sheets, standard work, PM plans).
- Participate in equipment assessment, lifecycle planning, and tooling/fixture redesign or enhancement.
- Contribute to digitalization efforts, including machine monitoring, data connectivity, and OEE dashboard development.
- Assist in identifying opportunities to automate manual processes through robotics, data collection systems, or visualization tools.
- Support vendor engagement for machine procurement, installation, and commissioning.
- Help validate and qualify new or modified processes, ensuring compliance with engineering and quality requirements.
- Prepare documentation, dashboards, and reports through close collaboration with engineering, IT, and production teams.
- Participate in post-implementation performance tracking to measure improvements and recommend next steps.
