About The Company
Two cities separated by one mighty river. Mpls.St.Paul has played a role as an indispensable voice in the story of our community for 50 years. Our stewardship approach is a mix of dynamic editorial that’s part archivist and keeper of the local tales—as well as a curator of what’s new and next. In recent years the Twin Cities has reconnected with a shared narrative—we’ve embraced our heritage and our place on the national map as the North. We celebrate our maker roots, our farming roots, our cultural diversity, our significant entrepreneurial footprint, and land of 10,000 lakes. Readers trust and rely on Mpls.St.Paul to connect them with the local landscape and find the best—artisans, retailors, chefs, thought leaders, innovators, and change agents shaping where our cities continue to evolve. Published monthly by MSP Communications, Mpls.St.Paul Magazine’s more than 60,000 readers are smart, affluent, and responsive. The magazine is sold on newsstands throughout the Twin Cities area and the state of Minnesota (cover price is $4.99) and by subscription for $19.95 per year.

Job Details

Job Location: MSP Communications - St Paul, MN 55114
Position Type: Internship
Salary Range: $15.97 - $15.97 Hourly

The paid position ($15.97/hour) is 20–25 hours per week and involves fact checking; participating in research projects; posting to our online events calendar; and writing and editing for Mpls.St.Paul Magazine, Mpls.St.Paul Home & Design, and mspmag.com. Interns finesse research and reporting/editing skills and get an inside look at the workings of a monthly publication and daily website and newsletter. We want our interns to leave the internship program with an understanding of both print and digital publishing platforms, which is crucial in today’s job market.

Start Dates: We typically offer two internship programs—winter/spring (January through June) and summer/fall (June through January). Note: We do not offer summer-only internships. The positions are hybrid, with at least one day in the office each week (candidates must reside in MN). You must be able to use your own cell phone and access to internet for the position. We will provide you with a laptop for the internship’s duration.

Qualifications

Requirements: Candidate must be pursuing or have graduated with an English/journalism/communications major or minor, or have related experience. Eagerness, a willingness to learn, and an interest in magazines is a must. Experience at a student publication and/or other publications is preferred.

Deadline: The deadline for the winter/spring 2026 internship application is November 17, 2025. The deadline for summer/fall 2026 will be in mid-April. Please indicate which timeframe you wish to be considered for in your application.

Contact: To apply, please fill out the application form here or e-mail a cover letter, current résumé, and three published writing samples or clips (no term papers, please) to Mpls.St.Paul Magazine at intern@mspmag.com or via Paycom on the Mpls.St.Paul website. You must include the cover letter, resume, and clips, as well as your Monday–Friday availability and potential start date for the internship term, to be considered.  We will not be able to consider candidates without full application packages.  Strong candidates have very clean, articulate application packages. All items should be in PDF format. No links to clips. Indicate if you are interested in a winter/spring or summer/fall internship. We will contact candidates as soon as we are able after the deadline.
