<h3>The Position</h3><p><b>2026 Summer Intern - Public Affairs & Access: Policy Communications (Corporate Communications) </b></p><p></p><p><b>Department Summary</b></p><p>Public Affairs & Access is a multi-disciplinary organization that includes Access Solutions & Patient Support; Channel & Contract Management; Corporate Communications; External Affairs; Patient Strategy; Policy, Evidence, & Access Strategy; and Strategic Business Operations. Our mission is to drive positive change in the healthcare system so that every patient can access our science. We lead the development of meaningful partnerships, forward-looking pricing, contracting and distribution strategies, and proactive policy solutions that advance a more equitable and hopeful future for all of those who need our therapies.<br /> </p><p><b>This position is based in Washington, DC, On-Site.</b></p><p></p><p><b>The Opportunity</b></p><ul><li><p>Content Development & Policy Collateral: <span>Support the drafting, development and organization of key policy-focused communications materials, including one-pagers, fact sheets, and comprehensive messaging frameworks.</span></p></li><li><p>Strategic Communication Support: <span>Assist with the development of content for influential external audiences, such as policymakers, trade associations, advocacy partners, and the media.</span></p></li><li><p>Executive Briefing Preparation: <span>Research and help prepare detailed briefing materials to ensure Genentech leaders are well-prepared for their external engagements.</span></p></li><li><p>Media Monitoring & Tracking:<span> Assist with daily media monitoring, coordinate updates for internal stakeholders, and support initiatives to organize and streamline the flow of approved content, resources, and talking points for external media engagement.</span></p></li><li><p>Internal Communication Coordination:<span> Coordinate with colleagues across Corporate Communications, Federal Government Affairs, and other teams to identify messaging gaps and ensure alignment and consistency across all external communication channels.</span></p></li><li><p>State & Local Advocacy Support: <span>Provide communications support for priority state-level policy initiatives and Genentech's signature Transformative Advocacy initiatives.</span></p></li><li><p>Policy Event Coverage & Reporting:<span> Attend and cover key media briefings, think tank discussions, and relevant thought leadership events across Washington D.C. Synthesize notable discussions and policy takeaways into concise, actionable summaries for the D.C. team.</span></p></li></ul><p></p><p><b>Program Highlights</b></p><ul><li><p>Intensive 12-weeks , full-time (40 hours per week) paid internship.</p></li><li><p>Program start dates are in May/June (Summer)</p></li><li><p>A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship. </p></li><li><p>Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects.</p></li><li><p>Work with some of the most talented people in the biotechnology industry. </p></li></ul><p></p><p><b>Who You Are (Requirements) </b></p><p><b>Required Education: You meet one of the following criteria:</b></p><ul><li><p><span>Must be pursuing a Bachelor's degree.</span></p></li></ul><p></p><p><b>Required majors: </b>Public Policy or Public Administration, Political Science, Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Health Policy, Government or related disciplines.</p><p></p><p><b>Required Skills:</b></p><ul><li><p><span>Excellent written and verbal communication skills</span></p></li><li><p><span>Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills</span></p></li><li><p><span>Strong analytical and research capabilities</span></p></li><li><p><span>Ability to simplify complex policy topics into clear, compelling narratives</span></p></li><li><p><span>Interest in federal health policy, policymaking, advocacy, or strategic communications</span></p></li><li><p><span>Interest in state and local policy issues, regional economic development, or community engagement is a plus</span></p></li><li><p><span>Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines</span></p></li><li><p><span>Complements our culture and the standards that guide our daily behavior & decisions: Integrity, Courage, and Passion</span></p></li></ul><p></p><p><b>Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting. </b></p><p></p><p>The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of Washington, DC is $21- $26/hour.  Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
