The Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri (GSEM) Internship Program is designed to provide students with an opportunity to join our mission to impact the lives of girls in the Eastern Missouri region. We are excited to offer a variety of internship opportunities that will promote the GSEM mission while strengthening our collaborative relationship with key stakeholders through offering this unique internship program.

Participants in the GSEM Internship Program will learn more about our non-profit organizational structure while gaining critical hands-on work experience. Through supporting a specific department applicable to their field of study, performing a variety of functions, or tasks in multiple departments across the organization; interns will obtain relevant skills to support their individual professional growth and development.

This internship will take place during the Spring 2026 semester. Schedule will be discussed during the interview process.

About the Role:

As a Retail Sales & Services Associate Intern, you will work directly with our Retail Sales & Services staff who are responsible for the operations and marketing of retail sales and services including the Girl Scout Shop and special sales events. This internship will be approximately 10-20 hours per week and is eligible for college credit, if applicable. This is a paid internship with an hourly rate of $15.00.

Essential Functions:

Supporting the Retail Sales and Services team through:

  • Providing customer service to shoppers and utilizing sales skills to promote product.
  • Administer inventory management.
  • Assist in purchasing and receiving product.
  • Complete visual merchandising within the Girl Scout Shop and at events.

What will you gain from this experience?:

  • You will learn fundamental customer service skills for use with both internal and external clients.
  • You will learn core inventory management principals and best practices including all components of the purchasing cycle (buying, receiving, merchandising, selling, replenishment, price changes, and overview of Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 (SOX) requirements in the retail environment), cycle counts, and annual physical inventory.
  • You will learn to use the core Sandler Selling models in the retail environment.
  • You will learn visual merchandising methodologies and best practices.

Work Location:

This position is an in-person position; requiring you to be in-office at then Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri office at the GSEM Shop location (Maryland Heights, MO), as well as occasional days at our camp locations or special events.

Qualifications

  • Interns must be enrolled in a graduate, bachelor's or associate's degree program and have completed at least one (1) semester of college.  Interns must be pursuing a degree relevant to the role.  Interns may or may not receive academic credit for the internship.  If an intern seeks academic credit for the internship, it is up to the intern to establish this through their educational institution.
  • Internships are temporary assignments offered for up to a maximum of four (4) semester periods.  Intern work scheduled may vary depending upon course credit requirements, intern scheduling preferences, needs for time off, etc.  Interns may work up to twenty (20) hours per week during the school year and up to thirty (30) hours per week during the summer.
