Job Details
An internship with Heartland Co-op works toward preparing students for a full-time position within the Agriculture industry. From day one, interns will attain real-world experience with Heartland Co-op Agronomists, customers, and partner companies. Additional development opportunities include:
* Interacting with farmers to determine their needs and deliver personalized solutions
* Scouting to identify weeds, insects, and diseases that cause damage to fields
* Helping with spring summer agronomy logistics to understand the operational side of our business
* Attending sales and product training throughout the summer
* Collecting and reporting soil and tissue samples
* Supplier and lab facility tours
* Opportunity to participate in our weekly InSites intern contest

Education/Experience:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Ability:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.
Math Ability:
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, and ratios.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to define problems collects data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of spreadsheets, word processing, accounting, and precision ag software.
Certificates and Licenses:
Work toward obtaining a CCA certificate as well as any other appropriate certifications.
Must maintain a valid driver’s license and commercial insurability at all times.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to work near moving mechanical parts.

Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly.
Qualifications
Education and/or Experience:
Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year College or technical school; or Bachelor's Degree in an agricultural related field or working towards a Bachelor's Degree.
Language Skills:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be proficient in MS Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook and the internet.
Certificates and Licenses:
Must maintain a valid driver’s license and commercial insurability at all times.
