We are driving the transformation toward a sustainable future for all brands within the Volkswagen Group by exploring the entire process chain – from material development and manufacturing to recycling. As part of your internship or thesis project, you will contribute to the evaluation of new materials for body applications. You will have access to a state-of-the-art materials laboratory equipped with advanced testing and analysis tools, enabling you to apply your knowledge, expand your technical expertise, and gain valuable hands-on experience. Possible Tasks within this Role

  • Conduct a thorough review of the latest scientific and technological developments in this field
  • Perform material characterizations using advanced testing methods, such as tensile tests, bending tests, hardness measurements, and microscopy
  • Analyze and interpret test data in close collaboration with experienced team members
  • Assess the potential of innovative steel materials for use in automotive body structures
  • Prepare clear, well-structured reports and deliver presentations in internal meetings

Qualification requirements

  • Students of Materials Science, Surface Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field
  • Solid understanding of materials and material testing methods, ideally with a focus on steel
  • Strong academic performance
  • Precise and reliable working style as well as strong communication skills for interdisciplinary collaboration
  • German and English language level B2
