About the Role

Job Summary:

The Canaveral Port Authority (CPA) conceives, builds, operates, and it is the world’s busiest cruise port and was named the “best cruise homeport” in America*.   As the gateway to Central Florida, Port Canaveral provides facilities for shippers who seek to save time and money as benefits of its proximity to major markets and efficient transportation links. In conjunction with harbor improvements that include a new channel depth of 43’ to accommodate larger vessels, Port Canaveral’s expansion includes building facilities that are designed to amplify and enhance business activity at this local, regional, and national strategic asset.

CPA offers graduate and undergraduate students a paid internship working side by side with knowledgeable and experienced experts within the maritime and transportation industries.

Essential Functions:

Candidates must be enrolled either as a graduate or undergraduate student at an accredited maritime academy, college, or university with studies related to the sciences, environmental and/or policy, or an engineering major with an environmental focus.

The CPA may also consider a pre-college student of at least 18 years of age that has been accepted into a maritime academy, college, or university in the aforementioned related fields of study.

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Candidates must be enrolled as either a graduate or undergraduate student at an accredited maritime academy or other higher education such as college or university (preferably from a Florida based school) with studies related to the sciences, environmental and/or policy, or an engineering major with an environmental focus.
  • The CPA may also consider a pre-college student of at least 18 years of age that has been accepted to a maritime academy, or other higher education such as college or university in the aforementioned areas of study.
  • Geographic Information System (GIS) experience.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Successful candidates will be self-starters with excellent communication, research, and applicable technical skills
  • Must have a valid Florida’s driver license or ability to get one within 30 days.

Physical Requirement:

  • May involve working outdoors in the heat and some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (20-30 pounds)
