<h3>The Position</h3><h2><span><span>2026 Summer Intern - Analytical Development (Molecular Biology)</span></span></h2><p></p><h2><span><span>Department Summary</span></span></h2><p></p><p><span>The Analytical Development team in Philadelphia is part of Roche’s Gene Therapy technical development function (PTCG); building the roadmap for product safety and efficacy. By characterizing viral capsids, we provide the data that brings life-changing medicines to patients. Our Molecular Biology group is seeking a motivated Co-op to advance AAV analytical capabilities. You will develop advanced methods for residual DNA characterization, offering a unique opportunity to apply molecular biology expertise to a high-value, GxP-supporting analytical project.</span></p><p><br /><span>This internship position is located in</span> <b>Philadelphia, on-site.</b></p><p></p><p><b>The Opportunity</b></p><ul><li><p><span>Gain hands-on experience with Digital PCR (dPCR) workflows- alongside other molecular biology techniques to characterize viral vector residual DNA.</span></p></li><li><p><span>Work alongside Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to design and execute wet-lab experiments and conduct initial method pre-qualification studies. </span></p></li><li><p><span>Analyze experimental data to assess the size of residual DNA impurities, contributing to the team’s understanding of product quality.</span></p></li><li><p><span>Document experimental protocols and results in laboratory notebooks and present technical findings to the research team.</span></p></li><li><p><span>Collaborate with senior scientists to integrate the final quantitative dPCR assay into the existing Molecular Biology platform.</span><br /> </p></li></ul><p><b>Qualifications</b></p><ul><li><p><span><span>Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or a related life science field.</span></span></p></li><li><p><span><span>Hands-on experience with fundamental nucleic acid handling and molecular techniques (e.g., standard PCR, qPCR, gel electrophoresis).</span></span></p></li><li><p><span><span>Demonstrated proficiency in basic laboratory techniques, including meticulous pipetting and solution preparation.</span></span></p></li><li><p><span><span>Proficiency in data processing and analysis using tools such as Microsoft Excel, with an ability to interpret complex quantitative data.</span></span></p></li><li><p><span><span>Excellent communication, organizational, and collaboration skills, with a passion for problem-solving.</span></span></p></li></ul><p><br /><b><b>Program Highlights</b></b></p><ul><li><p><b><b>Intensive 6 months, full-time (40 hours per week) paid internship.</b></b></p></li><li><p><b><b>Program start dates are in May/June 2026.</b></b></p></li><li><p><b><b>A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship. </b></b></p></li><li><p><span>Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects.</span></p></li><li><p><span>Work with some of the most talented people in the biotechnology industry.</span></p></li></ul><p></p><p><b><b>Who You Are </b></b><br /><br /><b><b>Required Education</b></b><br />You meet one of the following criteria:</p><ul><li><p><span>Must be pursuing a Bachelor's degree. </span></p></li><li><p><span>Must have attained a Bachelor's degree (recent graduates not currently enrolled in a grad program). </span></p></li><li><p><span>Must be pursuing a Master's degree.</span></p></li></ul><p></p><p><b><b>Required Majors: </b></b>Chemistry, Genetics, Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or related fields.</p><p></p><p><b><b>Required Skills: </b></b></p><ul><li><p><span>Practical experience with Molecular Biology related lab techniques and safety.</span></p></li><li><p><span>Strong academic understanding of nucleic acid handling, PCR/QPCR, and gel electrophoresis.</span></p></li></ul><p></p><p><b><b>Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications</b></b></p><ul><li><p><span>Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.</span></p></li><li><p><span>Complements our culture and the standards that guide our daily behavior & decisions: Integrity, Courage, and Passion.</span></p></li><li><p><span>Familiarity with gene therapy concepts or Adeno-Associated Virus (AAV) biology.</span></p></li><li><p><span>Theoretical understanding or exposure to nucleic acid quantification methods, specifically PCR/qPCR/dPCR. </span></p></li></ul><p></p><p><b><b>Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting. </b></b><br /> </p><p><span>The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of Pennsylvania </span><span>is </span><span><b>$23.00 - $35.00 per hour. </b>Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
