Stack Engineering Intern

Status: Non-Exempt (hourly)

Department: 389 (Stack Engineering)

Term: May – August 2026 (Summer).  Vista-Slingerlands, NY Location

Position Summary

Plug Power Inc. is actively seeking a highly motivated Intern. The Intern will be responsible for assisting the Stack Engineering design team in the development and maintenance of 3D CAD models and associated drawings. In this role, you will work with Plug’s experienced design team to learn and put into real practice the creation of new component and assembly level 3D CAD models, drawings for the various fuel cell stack product lines.    You will engage with a wide variety of stakeholders including Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, Change Control, and other Engineering product teams.

Learning Objectives

  • Learn and apply techniques in the areas of 3D CAD model and drawing creation using PTC’s Creo & Windchill software
  • Understand how to apply proper dimensioning and tolerancing techniques using GD&T
  • Work with a broad set of stakeholders to understand the requirements to source, manufacture, and assemble fuel cell components into full stack assemblies
  • Develop an understanding of a formal change control process and the details when releasing a design to production

Core Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support 3D CAD design / modeling needs for existing and new fuel cell stack related components along with managing the definition and accuracy of various stack product configurations.   
  • Work with Stack Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and suppliers to ensure proper models, drawing, and BOMs.  
  • Capture and coordinate various change control documentation and associated activities for each stack product.   
  • Develop an effective means to communicate the latest stack design configurations, associated subcomponent variations, and current design changes.  
  • Represent Plug Power in a professional manner at all times and in all interactions
  • Perform all other duties as assigned

Education and Qualification

  • Pursuing a Bachelor of Science or Master's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical or a related program
  • Prior Internship or Co-op experience preferred
  • Must have reliable transportation to the office
  • Background/experience with 3D CAD software.   Creo and Windchill experience is desirable.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Possess solid hands-on approach to problem-solving
  • Computer and software systems skills as applicable to position including but not limited to: Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook
  • Ability to manage complex projects and multi-task effectively
  • Demonstrated analytical abilities with strong attention to detail
  • Excellent follow-through 
  • Must be driven and self-motivated
  • Must possess the highest ethical standards and a commitment to work quality
  • This would be a role located in Plug’s Vista facility in Slingerlands, NY with the desired duration being May to August 2026

Estimated Base Salary Range:

$21.00 - $25.00
