SHM Architects is a boutique design studio founded in 2005 in Dallas, Texas. Location: In-office in Dallas, Texas

Dates: Tuesday, May 26 to Thursday, August 6

A Day in the Office Looks Like This:

The Interior Design Intern works simultaneously on a variety of projects supporting the Interior Design Studio staff in the daily operations and individual design teams throughout all phases of projects. As part of the SHM Internship Program, the incumbent will take part in a conceptual project that culminates at the end of the internship with a portfolio-worthy project presentation to all SHM Staff.

  • Performs assignments under the direction of more experienced staff, including but not limited to project administration, schematic design, design development, and contract document administration
  • Assists in computer production of preliminary plans and preparation of client presentations
  • Researches and resources finish materials, furniture, lighting, and accessories, including phone calls, showroom visits, and other communications with vendors
  • Generates schedules for project designers’ review
  • Maintains physical and digital resources, including organization, updating, and maintaining inventory of finish library as well as product representative contact information
  • Updates client folders and binders
  • Applies established interior design standards
  • Assists in the development of design solutions for review

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment

Indoor office environment. Normal work hours are 8:30 AM – 5:30 AM Central Monday through Friday We work in a collaborative, indoor office environment at the top of the historic Meadows Building at Energy Square. This is a great location with quick access to US-75 and the Lovers Lane DART Station practically on site.

Normal work hours are 8:30 AM – 5:30 AM Central Monday through Friday with one hour for lunch, but we are flexible if our business and customers’ needs remain priority #1. Occasionally, there may be a need to work outside of normal work hours or weekends to meet project deadlines. Some local travel is required.  

Physical Demands

Work performed requires the ability to lift up to 25 pounds, sit, stand, walk, operate a keyboard, and communicate clearly and effectively on the phone, in-person, and via written communication.

Requirements

  • Must be pursuing a professionally accredited Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or related field
  • 3rd or 4th year interior design student preferred
  • Must have a car for the duration of the internship with a valid driver's license and auto insurance
  • Prior exposure to AutoCAD, Revit, and Sketch-Up
  • Exposure or experience with Studio Designer preferred
  • Proficient with technical detailing
  • Strong sketch capabilities
