About the Role

SOLV Energy is an engineering, procurement, construction (EPC) and solar services provider for utility solar, high voltage substation and energy storage markets across North America.

Job Description Summary:

The Design Intern will assist the Engineering team in producing in-house 30% design packages for utility scale solar projects.

Summer 2026 Internship. This role is based full-time in our office in San Diego, CA. Specific location details and expectations will be discussed during the interview process.

Position Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Review and summarize electrical, structural, and civil engineering documentation.

  • Assist design engineers in preparing site layouts, single-line diagrams, and equipment specifications.

  • Research electrical components (modules, inverters, conductors, protection devices, etc.) and assist in selection process based on project specifications and code requirements. 

  • Perform CAD Drafting for Electrical layouts and Schematics.

  • Participate in design reviews and collaborate effectively with other engineering disciplines and project teams. 

  • Assist in preparing technical reports, calculations, and maintaining accurate design documentation.

  • Maintenance of CAD Block libraries. 

  • Track project updates and support engineering business development efforts.

Minimum Skills or Experience Requirements:

  • On track to obtain EIT (Engineer in Training) certification

  • Ability to multitask and juggle responsibilities 

  • Organized and detail oriented 

  • Proficient in Microsoft's systems

  • Proficient in CAD preferred 

  • Be a people person 

  • Ability to adapt and respond quickly to change in a fast-paced environment 

  • Self-motivated 

  • Excellent communication skills
