About the Role
As a Cadet, you'll be an essential part of our mission to provide safe and reliable maritime services. You'll work alongside a dedicated team that values professionalism, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
What You'll Do
- Engage in hands on learning through training and observation of towing and other marine operations in a work study environment.
- The cadet may be called on to assist with making and breaking tow, lashing and rigging cargo on barges, handling lines and wires, splicing, maintaining orderliness and cleanliness of the vessel, and other duties as directed by the Master/Chief Engineer.
- Understand emergency procedures including fire, man overboard, abandon ship and pollution response.
- May be required to serve as lookout at times when the vessel is navigating in reduced visibility.
- Pull heavy lines, climbing onto and walking on barges, boats and narrow barge walkways
What We're Looking For
- Valid United States Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Credential
- Valid Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC)
- For international voyages -- must hold a current certification in STCW.
- Must be currently an active student with a maritime institution or academy.
- Basic maritime knowledge preferred.
- Must be able to practice/exhibit good seamanship.
- Basic knowledge of nautical terminology preferred
- Able to sail for 45 -90 days.
What We Offer
Pay for this position will be $21.30 per hour.
