About the Role
About the opportunity

SWCA Environmental Consultants is seeking an enthusiastic and detail-oriented Human Resources Intern to support our Compliance and People Support functions. In this position, you will be supporting the team’s administrative and HR-related functions. 

 

This internship will occur during the summer of 2026 (early June to mid-August). Candidates who can start earlier than June 2025 will be considered, and those who can remain past August may provide additional value. Interns can expect coaching and direction from functional leadership in their respective support areas and participate in the larger internship cohort for scheduled developmental programming with senior organizational leaders. 

 

This is a paid, 40-hour per week internship.  Interns will be paid $19.00/hour for a Phoenix-based position.

What you will accomplish

  • Your role will be to assist our corporate HR functions while learning a wide variety of skills. 

     

    Perform various office, administrative, and HR functions activities with an emphasis on compliance and human relations.  These will be performed under the supervision of SWCA's People Support team.

     

    The People Support Intern’s responsibilities include updating employee records, filing HR documents accordingly, and providing suitable recommendations to improve HR policies. You should also be able to draft employee communications notifying staff of policy and procedural changes.

     

    Activities will include but are not limited to:

    • Review and audits HR Processes and assisting with developing Standards Operating Procedures.
    • Data entry into existing HR databases and changing/updating data tables.
    • Assisting our People Support team with day-to-day functions and related administrative and data entry tasks.
    • Participate in program and project meetings as needed.
    • Opportunities to learn about People Support best practices and approaches.
    • Assisting with ad hoc projects.

Experience and qualifications for success

Required

 

  • Currently enrolled in a college or university, pursuing a bachelor's degree in human resources, business, marketing, communication, psychology, philosophy, or related field, completion of junior year, senior year or a recent graduate within 12 months of May 1, 2026.
  • Must have completed 60 credit hours and a minimum of a junior classification by June 1, 2026. 
  • Excellent typing skills and intermediate proficiency in MS Office programs.
  • Basic Excel formulas such as V-Lookup, and Pivot Tables.
  • Must be able to exercise discretion and maintenance of confidentiality.

 

Preferred

  • Ceridian Software experience.
  • Excellent phone/email communication, multi-tasking and interpersonal skills with the ability to represent the company in a professional manner and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail and accuracy.

An employee in this Phoenix-based position can expect a pay rate of $19.00/hour.
