Early Careers: Intern, Client Consulting - PathWise Solutions Group (PSG)

Our PathWise Solutions Group (PSG) business is looking for a Client Consulting intern.

This is a 4-month internship opportunity with the flexibility to work both virtually and from our Toronto office.

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in Canada. This role is not eligible for sponsorship, and we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa or work permit.

The hourly salary range for this position is $26.41 - $44.97. The actual salary will vary based on applicant’s education, experience, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity.

What the day will look like

As an actuarial student on the PSG team, you will help build and test models that support key investment and risk management decisions for our insurance clients. You’ll work with experienced professionals, gain exposure to real‑world projects, and learn how advanced modeling tools are used in practice.

In this role, you will:

• Support the implementation of asset models for traditional and alternative asset classes.
• Assist with the implementation of strategic asset allocation (SAA) and asset–liability management (ALM) strategies.
• Help conduct performance and benchmark testing for client models and suggest ways to improve model efficiency.
• Support model reconciliation and investigations, including detailed analysis of the impact of model changes.
• Troubleshoot issues that arise during PathWise software migrations.
• Collaborate with team members to maintain and enhance automated processes, helping ensure efficient workflows and strong controls.

You’ll be supported by senior team members but will also have the opportunity to take ownership of specific tasks and deliverables.

Our consulting work focuses on:

• Actuarial analysis
• Reinsurance modeling and structuring
• Reviewing hedging and ALM programs
• Modeling insurance liabilities and financial assets

Skills and experience that will lead to success

• Enrolled full‑time in a bachelor’s or master’s program in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Interested in applying quantitative and technical skills to real‑world insurance and investment problems.
• Able to work effectively in a team‑oriented environment and complete assigned projects on time.
• Strong problem solvers with attention to detail and a willingness to learn.
• Comfortable collaborating with different teams and, where applicable, with clients.

Technical skills:

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel) is required.
• Experience with Python and/or modeling tools is highly preferred.

Industry and professional development:

• Previous internship or co‑op experience in the life insurance industry is an asset, but not required.
• Actively pursuing (or planning to pursue) Associateship or Fellowship with the Canadian Institute of Actuaries and/or the Society of Actuaries is preferred.
