The Duke Health Strategic Planning Administrative Internship is a temporary, full-time program designed for highly motivated graduate-level students who are interested in pursuing a career in healthcare strategy.  The curriculum is designed to provide students with a comprehensive learning experience at a premier academic health system through hands-on project work and observational opportunities.  The paid position is hybrid and includes 2-3 days onsite in the team’s office in Durham, NC, and the other days working remotely. The internship will run for 10 to 12 weeks in the May to August timeframe.

 

This internship is designed to provide early careerists with an expansive and immersive learning experience in health system strategic planning through exposure to projects that help inform and advance the organization’s strategic direction. The Intern role provides project management and analytical support as part of a highly productive department that supports the health system and its related provider groups and entities with strategic planning guidance and insights. Projects will encompass both collaborative and individual assignments that meaningfully contribute to key strategic workstreams, such as strategic intelligence, clinical service line planning, and growth initiatives.

 

The Intern will also have exposure to the breadth and depth of work done by the Strategic Planning Department. The Intern will have a day-to-day manager and a senior leadership preceptor to meet with regularly and discuss progress.

 

Below is a sample list of potential projects and initiatives: 

 

  • Strategic intelligence research and analysis and creation of leadership briefings
  • Specialty service analysis
  • Provider landscape analysis
  • Service line outlook presentation
  • Project management support

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education

High School graduation and completion of one year of a bachelor's degree program are required. 

 

Preferred Bachelor’s degree and currently enrolled in a Master’s degree program with a concentration in healthcare management (MHA, MHSA, MPH, MBA, etc.)

 

Applicants must have completed at least one semester of classes and cannot have completed their graduate program before the start of the internship
