About the Role

Description

Summary: Learn about the Geotechnical and Environmental Engineering space in one of ENGEO's labs! This internship is a fantastic way to get hands-on experience working in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Perform soil and concrete laboratory tests, such as compaction curves, moisture/density, gradation, triaxial and R-value tests and some concrete compression testing.
  • Effectively communicate test results to office and field personnel as well as client contacts.
  • Assist professional staff in supplying and maintaining field equipment.
  • Assist professional staff in materials storage and disposal.
  • Prepares lab documents for internal client’s compression testing of concrete.
  • Pick up soil and concrete samples from various project sites.

A successful candidate be able to follow proper procedures, perform accurate computations, and build and maintain strong relationships with co-workers, clients, contractors, etc. Additionally, the candidate must have clear and concise verbal/written communication and computer skills, the ability to perform with moderate supervision and perform various tasks independently at the discretion of the supervisor. Lab work involves strenuous activity.

Requirements

Education/Experience: Ideal student candidates must be enrolled in a Soil or Earth Sciences, Geology or Civil Engineering degree program and be in good academic standing and have taken at least a soils class. On-the job training provided 


Candidate Criteria: Must have a clean driving record, be drug free, be able to physically transport 50 lbs. on a consistent basis and have the physical ability to perform strenuous activity.


Skills: Proactive, problem solver, proven track record of dependability, keen attention to detail, and well-developed interpersonal skills. Must effectively communicate and collaborate with clients, subcontractors, city agents, project managers - locally and in other regional offices- and internal support staff. Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic and diverse environment and have the ability to work and succeed as a team also while being resourceful when working alone in the lab. Enjoy learning and sharing knowledge with others for the success of the company. Must have a good understanding of the construction industry. Must be computer savvy and proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook computer applications.
