About the Role
<p>Join STR’s Service Desk team as an <strong>Information Technology Support Specialist Co-op</strong> and gain hands-on experience supporting a real-world enterprise IT environment. This role is designed for students seeking an immersive, longer-term opportunity to apply classroom learning in a professional setting while developing practical IT administration and customer support skills.</p> <p>As a co-op, you will be an active member of the Service Desk, working alongside experienced IT professionals and receiving dedicated mentorship. You will support day-to-day operations, assist end users with technical issues, manage support requests, and contribute to special projects that support STR’s mission-critical work. You will be trusted to make informed decisions under moderate supervision while maintaining a high standard of professionalism.</p> <p>This is an excellent opportunity for students who want meaningful responsibility, exposure to enterprise IT systems, and experience supporting complex, real-world technical challenges.</p> <p><strong>Duties:</strong>&nbsp;</p> <ul> <li>Provide efficient, high-quality first-line technical support for local, remote, and mobile staff</li> <li>Troubleshoot, research, and resolve hardware, software, and user access issues in a professional and customer-focused manner</li> <li>Perform hands-on desktop support, including system setup, software installation and upgrades, system configuration, and file backup support</li> <li>Verify issue resolution and perform post-resolution follow-ups when appropriate</li> <li>Create and manage user accounts in Active Directory</li> <li>Prepare and deploy new computers for employees</li> <li>Test and validate Windows and macOS system images</li> <li>Assist with the maintenance of printers, scanners, copiers, and workstations</li> <li>Support STR’s intern and co-op programs by configuring systems, administering access, providing first-line support, and reconciling equipment at program completion</li> <li>Administer and support the IT Service Management (ITSM) system, including ticket ownership, triage, and assignment to appropriate IT teams</li> </ul> <p><strong>Additional areas for professional growth and development include:&nbsp;</strong></p> <p>In addition to core Service Desk responsibilities, co-op students may gain exposure to:</p> <ul> <li><strong>Networking:</strong> switches, patch panels, cabling, and network jack termination</li> <li><strong>Data Storage:</strong> NetApp storage allocation and management</li> <li><strong>System Imaging &amp; Deployment:</strong> Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT)</li> <li><strong>Business Applications &amp; Tools:</strong> ServiceNow, asset management systems, and Microsoft licensing</li> </ul> <p><strong>Requirements:</strong>&nbsp;</p> <ul> <li>Currently enrolled in a post-secondary degree program related to Information Technology or a closely related field</li> <li>Strong organizational, administrative, and time-management skills</li> <li>Ability to quickly learn new IT systems and apply that knowledge in a support environment</li> <li>Strong written and verbal communication skills</li> <li>Demonstrated interest in information technology and end-user support</li> </ul> <p><strong>Perks:</strong>&nbsp;</p> <ul> <li>Competitive hourly pay</li> <li>Housing stipend (if applicable)</li> <li>Flexible schedule to support academic requirements</li> <li>Emphasis on work-life balance</li> <li>Engaging workplace community with social and professional activities</li> <li>Strong track record of co-op and intern conversions to future internships and full-time roles</li> </ul> <p><em>This position requires the ability to obtain a security clearance, for which U.S. citizenship is needed by U.S. Government.&nbsp;</em></p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Pay Information</strong><br>Full-Time Salary Range: $52,000 - $79,000</p> <p><em>The salary range listed is based on external market data.
