What a College Intern - Mechanical Design Engineering does at HP:
- Design mechanical components and systems using CAD tools, including case parts, and mechanisms.
- Perform critical design analyses such as Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), and tolerance stack-up studies.
- Utilize simulation software to conduct dynamic analyses and explore various configurations to optimize mechanical performance and efficiency.
- Develop and refine prototypes based on simulation results and conceptual designs, applying creative and innovative approaches.
- Collaborate with engineers to understand detailed project requirements, mechanical specifications, and performance objectives.
- Conduct rigorous testing and evaluation of prototypes to ensure stability, reliability, and compliance with design standards.
Individuals who do well in this role at HP, usually possess:
- Currently pursuing a Degree in Mechatronics/Mechanical.
- Able to commit to 5-6 months full-time internship, starting in May 2026.
- Good knowledge of mechanical design and basic understanding of electrical, sensors and programming.
- Demonstrated ability and enthusiasm for self-directed learning, proactively seeking out new knowledge and skills to enhance project outcomes.
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, CREO Elements/Direct) for creating and modifying mechanical designs.
- Good analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively within a team environment.
