About the Role
Position & Office Overview

As an Intern working with our geotechnical group, you will reinforce your education through a practical, hands-on, paid work experience. Your work will be realistic and rewarding, and allow you to be in a position of responsibility. You will contribute ideas and develop knowledge and communication skills while interacting with top professionals in your field. Responsibilities

  • Assisting with performing lab testing
  • Drafting boring logs and location diagrams

  • Scheduling of drill rigs for geotechnical projects

  • Obtaining utility clearance for subsurface explorations

  • Assisting with the subsurface exploration program and preparing drilling instructions

  • Performing boring and test pit layouts by both conventional surveying and Global Positioning Systems (GPS)

  • Classifying soil samples

  • Performing hand augers to obtain subsurface information and soil samples

  • Observing foundation or ground improvement installations

Qualifications

  • Actively pursuing a Bachelor or Master degree in Civil Engineering, Geology, or related degree

  • Interest in how structures are supported and a desire to think outside the box

  • Must be able to provide suitable transportation for use on job sites - mileage will be reimbursed

  • Position requires carrying 40 – 70 lbs multiple times a day or occasionally lifting 85 lbs to waist height

The expected pay range for this role and location is $16-$20/hour. The final agreed-upon compensation will be determined based on specific location and other individual qualifications.
