Job Description

A critical goal of the program is to give a complete and in-depth look at the operations of a surplus lines carrier and a surplus lines broker, creating accurate insights into starting a career in the wholesale and specialty segment of the industry, as well as showcasing long-term career potential. As such, this Internship Program curriculum is structured so an intern is rotated through many departments within the company operations. 

 

What you will do for C&F:

 

  • Interns will have an opportunity to do the work of the area they are observing (i.e., meeting with retail clients, brokers, underwriters, and/or reinsurers as applicable, drafting marketing copy, submissions, performing basic underwriting-related tasks, processing claims, helping to draft policies, etc.) 
  • Interns are assigned a primary contact and work directly with underwriters, brokers, and other key departmental contacts every day.
  • Interns will also be provided access to senior leadership, including director and executive-level officers, to discuss the challenges and philosophies adopted by the division to better succeed in the industry.
  • Interns will have opportunities to experience a full and complete operations of a surplus lines carrier or broker, and particular areas of interest/disinterest that have been informed by their classwork or other intern experiences to date. The intern’s schedule will be the product of a discussion between hosts and interns, and wherever possible, activities will be geared to areas of interest identified in the discussion.
  • Interns will meet with officers and team leaders to discuss the challenges and strategic concerns facing both the company and the individual departments, and will be provided with opportunities to perform the actual work of various stages.

  •  Current college student working towards a BA/BS in Business, Insurance or related field of study 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Good oral, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong organization, time management and planning skills are essential
  • Experience with MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word & Power Point)
  • A passion for learning
  • An innovative, entrepreneurial spirit
  • Ability to take ownership and see tasks through to completion
  • Ability to demonstrate leadership qualities

The annualized base pay for the advertised position, located in the specified area, ranges from a minimum of $16.00 to a maximum of $27.50. The actual compensation is determined by various factors, including but not limited to the market pay for the jobs at each level, the responsibilities and skills required for each job, and the employee’s contribution (performance) in that role. To be considered within market range, a salary is at or above the minimum of the range. You may also have the opportunity to participate in discretionary equity (stock) based compensation and/or performance-based variable pay programs.
