Maryland Auto Insurance seeks candidates to fill a part-time, contractual role in our Internship Program within the Underwriting Department. This is a part time position with a maximum of 29 hours per week for 8 weeks this summer starting June 8, 2026. This position is hybrid with both virtual and in office work. The candidate will be required to come into the office a minimum of once per week. Wednesday(s) will be a required in office day for educational lunch and learn sessions.
The Underwriting Intern will support the Underwriting Department in evaluating and processing personal auto insurance applications. This internship provides a hands‑on opportunity to gain exposure to insurance operations, risk assessment, regulatory compliance, and emerging technologies that may enhance underwriting efficiency. Interns will work closely with experienced underwriters and contribute to projects that support the department’s mission and daily operations, including exploratory work related to artificial intelligence (AI) applications.
Job duties include:
- Assist underwriters in reviewing auto insurance applications for accuracy, completeness, and eligibility.
- Conduct basic risk analysis using underwriting guidelines and internal policies.
- Organize and analyze policyholder data to identify trends or discrepancies.
- Participate in team meetings, collaborate on underwriting, and process improvement initiatives.
- Help maintain accurate documentation and ensure compliance with Maryland Auto’s underwriting standards.
- Support special projects, audits, and reporting activities as assigned.
- Learn and apply industry concepts, regulations, and best practices.
- Assist in exploring and evaluating opportunities for the Underwriting Department to leverage artificial intelligence (AI) to improve operational efficiency and enhance the customer experience.
- Conduct research on emerging AI tools, technologies, and industry trends relevant to underwriting workflows.
- Support small‑scale testing or analysis of AI concepts under the guidance of underwriting leadership.
Education & Experience Required:
- Currently pursuing a college degree (Associate’s, Bachelor’s, or Master’s) in Business, Risk Management, Data Analytics, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, or a related field.
Additional Information
This position does not supervise other employees. This is a part‑time, non‑benefited position with core hours scheduled during regular business hours. Specific hours will be finalized at the time of hire.
