We focus our legal, advocacy, and public education efforts on four major areas representing some of the most significant challenges facing the South and beyond: protecting voting rights and civic engagement; eradicating poverty in our Southern communities; dismantling white nationalism and protecting democracy; and decriminalizing and decarcerating Black and Brown people.
About the Role
<h1>The SPLC is seeking initiative-taking IT interns who are enthusiastic about project management!</h1>

<p>The Southern Poverty Law Center offers internships to exceptional students enrolled in an IT or Project Management related field who possess effective communication skills, strong work ethic and attention to detail. The Center is a catalyst for racial justice in the South and beyond, working in partnership with communities to dismantle white supremacy, strengthen intersectional movements, and advance the human rights of all people. As an internationally recognized nonprofit organization, the Center is dedicated to reducing bigotry and oppression through research and public education, outreach, litigation, and policy advocacy.</p>
<h3>Who You Are</h3>
<p><strong>Driven. </strong>Eager to learn and contribute to a dynamic project management environment.</p>
<p><strong>Communicative. </strong>Effective communication skills with a strong work ethic and attention not detail.</p>
<p><strong>Driven. </strong>Ability to support the Information Technology team and a desire to gain practical experience in IT Project Management, metrics and date.</p>

<h3>What You'll Do</h3>
<p><strong>Learn</strong> the aspects of IT project management and the unique challenges and opportunities within the different IT sectors, as well as take on daily operation of the designated management tool.</p>
<p><strong>Collaborate</strong> with SPLC teams to identify risks and dependencies.</p>
<p><strong>Participate</strong> in projects from inception to delivery and assist the tech teams with removing impediments.</p>
<p><strong>Assist</strong> in coordinating and managing IT projects under the guidance of the Senior Project Manager. </p>
<p><strong>Develop</strong> an understanding of the plans needed for IT execution.</p>
<p><strong>Participate</strong> in developing success metrics to gauge team performance and capacity.</p>
<p><strong>Work</strong> closely with Senior Project Manager to comprehend Agile methodologies and participate in sprint planning and reviews.</p>
<p><strong>Develop</strong> a foundational understand of Agile Principles and SAFe practices.</p>
<p><strong>Participate</strong> in IT planning and all Scrum ceremonies.</p>
<p><strong>Learn</strong> the aspects of the Agile framework and take an active role in leading team ceremonies.</p>
<p><strong>Engage</strong> in ongoing professional development by attending relevant workshops, webinars, and training sessions.</p>
<p><strong>Uphold our JEDI principles </strong>by helping to ensure we uplift the voices of underserved communities.</p>
<h3>Minimum Qualifications </h3>
<p><em>We are committed to equitable hiring practices; therefore, you must meet the minimum qualifications to be considered for the role.</em></p>
<ul>
<li>Currently enrolled as a Junior or higher standing in college or university pursing a degree in a related field (Business Administration, IT, Project Management);</li>
<li>Strong academic background; and</li>
<li>Strong organizational, communication and critical thinking skills.</li>
</ul>
<h3>Compensation & Benefits</h3>
<p>The Center pays $17.95 per hour. Interns are expected to work 40 hours a week and there may be opportunity for supervisor approved overtime.</p>
<h3>Where & How You'll Work </h3>
<p>This role has the following work designations:</p>
<p><strong>Local Remote: </strong>Will work remotely but is expected to attend work-related activities that occur at the SPLC offices or in the states in which the SPLC operates.</p>
<p><strong>Telework: </strong>Will work at an SPLC office at least three days per week and may work two days per week from an alternative work location.</p>
<h3>Other Special Considerations </h3>
<p>This job is performed under general office conditions and is not subject to any strenuous physical demands or dangerous conditions.</p>
<p>Due to the high volume of applications received, we are unable to respond to inquiries by telephone.</p>
<p>Interns are expected to begin on June 1, 2026. A minimum commitment of ten consecutive weeks is expected. We unfortunately are not able to split summers.</p>
