About the Role
<h3>The Position</h3><p><u><b><b>2026 Summer Intern - Synthetic Molecule Pharmaceutics</b></b></u></p><p></p><p><b><b>Department Summary</b></b></p><p></p><p><span>Department of Synthetic Molecule Pharmaceutics (SMP) is part of the Synthetic Molecule Pharmaceutical Sciences (SMPS) organization. Our department is committed to developing and delivering safe, effective and high-quality formulations in support of research and clinical development for the synthetic molecules coming out of gRED. Our research spans from fundamental understanding of physicochemical properties of molecules to drug delivery technologies needed for the development and manufacturing of dosage forms. </span></p><p></p><p><span>This internship position is located in</span> <b><b>South San Francisco, on-site.</b></b></p><p></p><p><b>The Opportunity</b></p><ul><li><p><span>Contribute to the design and optimization of novel laboratory instrumentation and process technologies, utilizing sensors and data acquisition systems.</span></p></li><li><p><span>Assist in the manufacturing and analysis of tablet formulations to evaluate material properties and processing behaviors.</span></p></li><li><p><span>Execute physicochemical characterization experiments on pharmaceutical materials, focusing on powder mechanics and solid dosage form performance.</span></p></li><li><p><span>Generate high-quality experimental datasets to support the validation of computational models and predictive algorithms.</span></p></li><li><p><span>Assist with compiling data, analyze experimental results, maintain accurate records, and present technical findings to cross-functional scientific teams.</span></p></li></ul><p></p><p><b><b>Program Highlights</b></b></p><ul><li><p><b><span>Intensive 12-weeks, full-time (40 hours per week) paid internship.</span></b></p></li><li><p><b><span>Program start dates are in May/June 2026. </span></b></p></li><li><p><b><span>A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship. </span></b></p></li><li><p><span>Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects.</span></p></li><li><p><span>Work with some of the most talented people in the biotechnology industry.</span></p></li></ul><p></p><p><b><b>Who You Are </b></b></p><p></p><p><b><b>Required Education:</b></b><b><b> </b></b></p><ul><li><p><span>Must be pursuing a Bachelor's Degree (enrolled student).</span></p></li><li><p><span>Minimum 3.5 GPA.</span></p></li></ul><p></p><p><b><b>Required Majors:</b><span> </span></b><span>Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or Biomedical Engineering.</span></p><p></p><p><b><b>Required Skills: </b></b></p><ul><li><p><span>Coursework: Completion of foundational undergraduate coursework in solid mechanics, fluid mechanics, or materials science.</span></p></li><li><p><span>Technical Interest: Strong interest in sensors, data acquisition, and design optimization of experimental equipment.</span></p></li><li><p><span>Lab Competence: Ability to safely execute hands-on experiments (e.g., mechanical testing, materials handling) and maintain accurate experimental records.</span></p></li><li><p><span>Self-Starter: Highly motivated, detail-oriented, and able to work with minimal supervision.</span></p></li></ul><p></p><p><b><b>Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications</b></b></p><ul><li><p><span>Proficiency in </span>MATLAB<span> or Python for data analysis and visualization.</span></p></li><li><p><span>Experience with </span>CAD<span> software (SolidWorks/AutoCAD) or </span>3D printing<span>.</span></p></li><li><p><span>Prior experience with powder characterization techniques (e.g., tensile testing, density measurements).</span></p></li><li><p><span>Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.</span></p></li><li><p><span>Complements our culture and the standards that guide our daily behavior & decisions: Integrity, Courage, and Passion.</span></p></li></ul><p></p><p><b><b>Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting. </b></b></p><p></p><p><span>The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California </span><span>is </span><span>$26.00-$33.00 hour.
