About the Role
<h3>The Position</h3><p><u><b>2026 Summer Intern – Research Oncology</b></u></p><p></p><p><b>Department Summary</b></p><p><br />The Research Oncology department serves as the engine of innovation within gRED (Genentech Research and Early Development). Our mission is simple yet audacious: to pursue groundbreaking science that transforms the standard of care for patients with the most complex cancers.</p><p><br />This internship position is located in <b>South San Francisco, on-site.</b></p><p><br /><b>The Opportunity</b></p><ul><li><p>Literature search: Your goal is to identify "knowledge gaps" that our project can address, turning academic theory into actionable research hypotheses.</p></li><li><p>Mastery of Scientific Principles: You will work closely with your mentor to deeply understand the biological principles of our project.</p></li><li><p>Experimental Design & Optimization: You will actively design your own experiments. This includes calculating necessary concentrations, selecting appropriate controls and determining the most effective assays to answer specific biological questions.</p></li><li><p>Hands-on Bench Execution: You will lead the execution of your designed experiments in our state-of-the-art labs.</p></li><li><p>Data analysis & Presentation: You will analyze your findings, create professional-grade figures, and present your data during our group meetings.</p></li></ul><p></p><p><b>Program Highlights</b></p><ul><li><p><b>Intensive 12-weeks, full-time (40 hours per week) paid internship.</b></p></li><li><p><b>Program start dates are in May/June 2026. </b></p></li><li><p><b>A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship.</b></p></li><li><p>Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects.</p></li><li><p>Work with some of the most talented people in the biotechnology industry.</p></li></ul><p><br /><b>Who You Are</b></p><p><br /><b>Required Education: You meet one of the following criteria:</b></p><ul><li><p>Must be pursuing a Bachelor's Degree (enrolled student).</p></li><li><p>Must have attained a Bachelor's Degree (not currently enrolled in a graduate program).</p></li></ul><p></p><p><b>Required Majors: </b>Biology, Molecular Biology, Immunology, Cell Biology.</p><p><br /><b>Required Skills:</b></p><ul><li><p>Cell Culture: Maintaining and propagating various cell lines, including primary immune.</p></li><li><p>Mammalian Cell Culture.</p></li><li><p>Laboratory Rigor: pipetting, solution preparation, and documentation in electronic lab notebooks (ELN).</p></li><li><p>Ability to perform basic scientific calculations (molarity, dilutions) and statistical analyses to biological data.</p></li><li><p>Software Proficiency: Familiarity with data analysis tools such as Microsoft Excel, GraphPad Prism, or FlowJo.</p></li><li><p>Protein Analysis: (e.g., Western Blot, ELISA, or basic Flow Cytometry).</p></li></ul><p></p><p><b><b>Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications</b></b></p><ul><li><p>Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.</p></li><li><p><span>Complements our culture and the standards that guide our daily behavior & decisions: Integrity, Courage, and Passion.</span></p></li><li><p>Performing Peripheral Blood Mononuclear Cell (PBMC) isolation from blood samples and T cell isolation from PBMC.</p></li><li><p>Flow Cytometry: Preparing samples, running experiments on the flow cytometer, and performing basic data analysis for immunophenotyping and functional assays.</p></li></ul><p></p><p><b>Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting.</b></p><p><br />The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $45.00 hour. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
