Roche’s Research and Early Development organisations at Genentech (gRED) and Pharma (pRED) have demonstrated how these technologies accelerate R&D, leveraging data and novel computational models to drive impact. Seamless data sharing and access to models across gRED and pRED are essential to maximising these opportunities. The new computational sciences Center of Excellence (CoE) is a strategic, unified group whose goal is to harness this transformative power of data and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to assist our scientists in both pRED and gRED to deliver more innovative and transformative medicines for patients worldwide.</span></span></span></p><p></p><p><span><span><span>Our team within the CS-CoE Computational Biology and Medicine department is seeking a talented and highly motivated Summer Intern </span></span></span><span><span><span>with a strong computational and analytical background in computational biology.</span></span></span></p><p></p><p><span><span><span>This internship position is located in</span><b><span> South San Francisco</span></b></span><span><b><span>, on-site. </span></b><span> </span></span></span></p><p></p><p><span><span><b><span>The Opportunity</span></b></span></span></p><p></p><p><span><span><span>Our team focuses on advanced computational research for development of cancer therapies, specifically in the field of cancer immunogenomics. We currently have an exciting internship opportunity available for highly motivated and academically equipped students. The internship will involve contributing to our research on identifying non-canonical targets for cancer therapies. This role offers hands-on experience in computational pre-clinical research. The ideal intern for this role should have a strong background in cancer biology and genetics.</span></span></span></p><ul><li><p><span><span>The candidate will be responsible for developing and/or applying bioinformatics approaches in analysing multiomics, expression, or sequence data.</span></span></p></li><li><p><span><span>The candidate will be responsible for documenting his or her efforts and code effectively such that colleagues will be able to replicate their efforts before and after their departure.</span></span></p></li><li><p><span><span>The candidate will be responsible for effectively communicating his or her technical and scientific findings in both smaller project meetings and larger group presentation formats.</span></span></p></li></ul><p></p><p><span><span><b><span>Program Highlights</span></b></span></span></p><ul><li><p><span><span><b><span>Intensive </span></b></span><span><b><span>12-weeks</span></b></span><b><span>, full-time (40 hours per week) paid internship.</span></b></span></p></li><li><p><span><span><b><span>Program start dates are in </span></b></span><span><b><span>May/June (Summer)</span></b></span></span></p></li><li><p><span><span><b><span>A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship. </span></b></span></span></p></li><li><p><span><span><span>Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects.</span></span></span></p></li><li><p><span><span><span>Work with some of the most talented people in the biotechnology industry.</span></span></span></p></li></ul><p></p><p><span><span><b><span>Who You Are</span></b></span></span></p><p></p><p><span><span><b><span>Required Education:</span></b></span></span></p><p></p><p><span><span><b><span>You meet one of the following criteria:</span></b></span></span></p><ul><li><p><span><span><span>Must be pursuing a PhD (enrolled student).</span></span></span></p></li><li><p><span><span><span>Must have attained a PhD.</span></span></span></p></li></ul><p></p><p><span><span><b><span>Required Majors: </span></b></span></span></p><p><span><span>Bioinformatics, Computer Science or related fields, Statistics, Biology, Genetics, Bioengineering<span> </span></span></span></p><p></p><p><span><span><b><span>Required Skills: </span></b></span></span></p><ul><li><p><span><span><span>The candidate should possess knowledge in human genetics or epigenetics, and should be familiar with genomics data, such as RNAseq or Riboseq data.</span></span></span></p></li><li><p><span><span>The candidate should be proficient in programming in Python, R, Julia, Perl, C, C++, and/or Java</span></span></p></li><li><p><span><span>Knowledge of Unix, preferably in an HPC setting.</span></span></p></li></ul><p></p><p><span><span><b><span>Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications</span></b></span></span></p><ul><li><p><span><span><span>Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.</span></span></span></p></li><li><p><span><span><span>Complements our culture and the standards that guide our daily behavior & decisions: Integrity, Courage, and Passion.</span></span></span></p></li></ul><p></p><p><b>Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting. </b></p><p>The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of CA is $50.00 hour.  Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
