Purpose: The Office of the State Treasurer’s Legal Department is seeking a student interested in attending law school for a Legal Administrative internship position beginning on June 1, 2026 for a ten-week period.
About the Legal Department: The Legal Department, under the direction of the General Counsel, acts as in-house counsel to the Treasury Executive Staff and all Treasury departments. Attorneys advise and consult with department heads and staff on a broad range of legal issues, draft legal memoranda, appear in administrative hearings, negotiate contracts, respond to public records requests, interpret statutes and regulations, develop Treasury policies, provide advice and counsel on employment and labor relations matters, and guide the process for purchasing goods and services.
Position Summary: Interns will be exposed to a variety of legal areas, with primary focus on administrative assistance duties. Interns will provide assistance to the Treasury and the legal team with typing documents and data input as necessary, preparing and organizing files, performing special projects and other related duties as assigned. Interns will have the opportunity to attend meetings alongside the legal team. Interest in attending law school or pursuing a career in the legal field, particularly in the government or public policy sectors, is strongly preferred, but not necessary.
Responsibilities:
Assist with administrative tasks related to legal team operations
Assist attorneys with document management
Attend various internal and external meetings with Treasury legal staff
Other tasks and special projects as assigned
Preferred Skills:
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Strong writing, organizational and planning skills
Demonstrated interest in governmental and/or public interest work
Working knowledge of MS Office Software, especially Excel and Word
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple assignments at once

Work Schedule:
The internship is full time, Monday through Friday (except for holidays) with 37.5-hour work week for 10 weeks. This is not a remote position. A minimum of two days per week in office is required. Please note that the exact schedule of in-office days will be determined in conjunction with the intern’s direct supervisor.
Compensation:
Undergraduate Interns: $22/hour
Graduate Interns: $24/hour
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift up to 10lbs
Ability to sit for extended periods of time
