Responsibilities

Project Tasks:

  • The intern will coordinate the shipment of flame and heat-release samples to 5–6 different test facilities and evaluate the resulting data for variability across labs. They will analyze heat-release and flammability performance, compare test-facility differences, and understand the underlying physics, including basic fluid-flow behavior. The intern will also collect test results, enter data into Jama, and help generate automated flammability statements and BOM outputs.
  • The student will gain hands-on exposure to FAA flammability and heat-release certification processes used in the aerospace industry. They will learn how to interpret cross-facility test variability, understand heat-release physics, and apply fluid-flow concepts to material behavior. The internship also provides practical experience with Jama, data automation, and real-world certification workflows

Qualifications

  • Preferred candidates are junior/senior undergraduates or graduate students in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Materials Science.
  • Relevant coursework includes heat transfer, fluid dynamics, combustion, experimental methods, and data analysis. Skills in Python or MATLAB, Jama, basic coding for report automation, and the ability to interpret experimental results are strongly desired.
  • This role is ideal for students who enjoy experimental work, data interpretation, and understanding how physics governs real test outcomes. Attention to detail and the ability to compare results across different labs will be essential. Candidates with experience in fluids, heat-release fundamentals, or university lab testing will be especially strong fits.
  • Must be able to commute and work on-site 5 days a week.
  • Must be currently enrolled as a fulltime student at an accredited four-year college or university

The hourly wage range for this position is $25- $43.  The final offer amount may vary and is based on the candidates' year in school.
