Transition. is our promise to enable that into the future while at the same time using our expertise to support new and existing markets in the blue economy. It starts with Advancing our Core: continuing to advance the decarbonization of traditional energy production. While Pioneering More: helping to enable the energy transition and using our unique capabilities in ocean infrastructure to support more industries to grow sustainably.  Sharing our experience for a better blue tomorrow.

Purpose

Title: Hydrodynamic Assessment of the FPSO Design Based on Extreme, Global-Warming Related Weather Scenarios

Purpose of Internship: Develop the envelope of FPSO’s global (motion & accelerations) and internal load responses (wave bending moments) using commercial hydrodynamic software (potential-flow, radiation/diffraction analysis) in conjunction with critical observations on dire predictions of global-warming related, extreme weather conditions.

Responsibilities

Objective of the internship is to perform hydrodynamic assessment, i.e., global and internal load analyses, using commercial radiation/diffraction software (Hydrostar), while identifying the appropriate scenarios (seastates) for simulation. The latter shall be based on an envelope of extreme weather conditions related to global-warming. These results and findings shall be subsequently used to make rather simplified, qualitative and quantitative, structural and stability assessments in order to determine the level of potential upgrade in the FPSO design.

The internship will be divided into three main tasks as follows:

  • Group the envelope of extreme weather conditions (seastates) based on global-warming related predictions (15%):
    • Look at existing global-warming data collected by SBM
    • Seclude relevant weather conditions
    • Present and justify the summary of seastates to investigate
  • Hydrodynamic Analysis (main study – 60%):
    • Prepare & run simulations for the selected seastates in Hydrostar & Starspec
    • Post-process results and prepare summary tables per environmental scenario
  • Effect on FPSO design (15%)
    • Under the guidance of SBM engineers, investigate the effect of these dynamic responses on the design of the FPSO by performing preliminary stability and structural assessments.

Education

  • Master’s degree (Naval architecture, Marine Technology, Ocean / Mechanical Engineering)
  • Good English level
  • Responsible, motivated, with positive attitude
